  • Patent number: 8121488
Abstract: An infrared communication apparatus and method enabling data communication with a receiving device, regardless of a protocol with which the receiving device is compatible. A transmitting unit transmits a first packet to inquire whether a receiving device is compatible with a first protocol and transmits a second packet to inquire whether the receiving device is compatible with a second protocol, to the receiving device at least once, and transmits a plurality of third packets to inquire whether the receiving device is compatible with a third protocol, to the receiving device. A receiving unit receives a response packet indicating a protocol with which the receiving device is compatible, from the receiving device having received the first packet, the second packet, and the plurality of third packets. A data transmitting unit transmits data to the receiving device, based on the protocol indicated by the response packet received by the receiving unit.

  • Publication number: 20080076470
Abstract: By a simple operation, data held in a portable information terminal can be transmitted to a desired apparatus and processed appropriately. A receiving apparatus 410 includes a wireless LAN communication unit 420 and an infrared receiving unit 82, and processing units 422 and 424 responsive to reception of data by the infrared receiving unit 82 from the same apparatus of the data received by wireless LAN communication unit 420, for performing a process determined by the data received by the infrared receiving unit 82 on the data received by the wireless LAN communication unit 420. Transmission of data as the object of processing and the process thereon can be designated by the data transmitting side, without requiring the side of receiving apparatus 410 to designate the method of processing.

  • Patent number: 6729542
Abstract: A digital information recording carrier has a planar recording surface having an information recording area in which cells corresponding to bits are virtually set in a matrix form, each cell being provided with an optically recognizable mark corresponding to digital information so that the digital information is recorded in the information recording area as a two-dimensional pattern. The carrier also has specific patterns each consisting of a plurality of cells which are linked together and which are given marks in a given pattern. Some of the specific patterns are placed in an inner portion apart from a perimeter of the information recording area.

  • Patent number: 6388784
Abstract: A digital optical transmitter includes a main/subdata modulation part for distorting a main data modulated signal waveform in response to sub-data, and an E/O conversion part for converting a subsequently obtained electrical modulated signal to an optical modulated signal and outputting the optical modulated signal. A digital optical receiver includes an O/E conversion part for receiving the optical modulated signal, converting it to an electrical modulated signal, and outputting the electrical modulated signal. Additionally, the digital optical receiver further includes a main/subdata demodulation part for demodulating the main data from the electrical modulated signal, while detecting whether or not a distortion signal responsive to the subdata is superposed on a subcarrier which forms the electrical modulated signal. If the distortion signal is superposed on a subcarrier, the main/subdata demodulator part demodulates the associated subdata.
