  • Patent number: 8353775
Abstract: A wheel support apparatus including a hub wheel which includes a hub shaft and is to mount a wheel thereon, a first side surface spline being formed on an end surface of the hub shaft, and a constant velocity joint which includes an outer ring connected to the hub shaft in a torque-transmitting manner, a second side surface spline meshed with the first side surface spline being formed on an end surface of a side wall portion of the outer ring abutting against the end surface of the hub shaft. Each of the first and second side surface splines includes a number of spline teeth and bottom lands defined between the spline teeth. The tooth tops of the spline teeth of one of the two side splines and the bottom lands of the other side spline are formed into a tapering surface inclined relative to a plane perpendicular to a center axis of the hub shaft. The tapering tooth tops contact the corresponding tapering bottom lands so that the hub shaft and the outer ring can be aligned with each other.

  • Patent number: 8313244
Abstract: In a wheel bearing assembly, the length of an annular protrusion in an axis direction, or the oscillation angle through which the center axis of a calk jig is oscillatingly turned relative to the center axis of a constant-velocity joint outer ring is restricted so that the annular protrusion and the calk jig do not interfere with each other when the constant-velocity joint outer ring is calk-fixed to the calk fixation portion of the wheel hub by radially outwardly bending a tubular protrusion formed on an end surface of the center shaft portion through the oscillating turn of the calk jig after the center shaft portion of the constant-velocity joint outer ring has been fitted to the hollow hole of the wheel hub.

  • Patent number: 8210752
Abstract: A rolling bearing is provided on an outer peripheral surface of a hub spindle of a hub wheel on which a wheel is mounted. Opposite side face splines, which, by meshing with each other, couple the hub spindle and an outer ring of a constant velocity joint torque-transmittably, are respectively formed on an end face of the hub spindle and on an end face of the outer ring of the constant velocity joint which is abutted against this end face. A tubular seal member for covering outer peripheries of the opposite side face splines is disposed so as to straddle an inner ring of the rolling bearing and the outer ring of the constant velocity joint, while maintaining a sealing state.

  • Patent number: 8052332
Abstract: In a wheel bearing assembly, an outer surface of a head portion of a link bolt contacts an inner surface of an end wall portion of a constant-velocity joint outer ring. A shaft portion of a link bolt is press-fit into a penetration hole of the constant-velocity joint outer ring. An external threaded portion of the link bolt is inserted into the central hole of a hub spindle so that the external threaded portion protrudes from an outer end surface of a hub wheel. A lock nut is fastened to the external threaded portion, so that the wheel hub and the constant-velocity joint outer ring are linked, and the first spline and the second spline are meshed so as to be capable of torque transmission.

  • Patent number: 8047724
Abstract: A wheel bearing apparatus includes a roller bearing, an inner shaft having an outer circumferential surface to which an inner ring of the roller bearing is installed, a coupler ring attached to an end portion of the inner shaft, and a caulked portion provided in an end portion of the inner shaft so as to fix the coupler ring and the roller bearing to the inner shaft so as to be immovable in an axial direction of the inner shaft. An outer diameter of the coupler ring is set smaller than a diameter of a shoulder portion of the inner ring. Alternatively, a protruding portion is provided in any one of opposing end surfaces of the coupler ring and the inner ring, whereby the coupler ring is arranged away from a seal member. Accordingly, it is possible to avoid an interference of the coupler ring with the seal member.

  • Patent number: 7766554
Abstract: Crowning is applied to a side surface of an inner ring which abuts against a side surface of a drive shaft in a radial direction. With this construction, when the two side surfaces abut against each other by a pressing operation of a threadedly-engaged nut at the time of connecting the drive shaft and an inner shaft, a contact pressure distribution of abutting surfaces is made generally uniform, thereby suppressing the occurrence of an edge load. By thus preventing a contact pressure from increasing at part of the abutting surfaces, energy released by a stick-slip phenomenon is reduced, and a sound pressure level of an abnormal sound generated at this time is reduced.

  • Publication number: 20090165581
Abstract: In a ball screw device, a ball screw nut is rotated, causing a screw shaft to rectilinearly move in the axial direction, and the limit of the movement of the screw shaft is determined by a stopper. The ball screw device includes a hollow shaft that rotates together with the ball screw nut and in which the screw shaft is movably fitted. The hollow shaft is provided with a small diameter portion that exerts a dragging force on the screw shaft before the screw shaft reaches the limit, and a buffer layer is formed on a tip portion of the screw shaft.

  • Publication number: 20080236927
Abstract: Power of an engine is divided to be transmitted to a power transmission path to front wheels and a power transmission path to rear wheels by a transfer mechanism where the power has just passed through a transmission so as to be transmitted to front wheels and rear wheels. In addition, a torque reduction and transmission joint is provided on the power transmission path to the rear wheels, so that the rotational drive torque to the rear wheels is reduced to be transmitted thereto. Additionally, constant velocity joints which are provided on the power transmission path to the rear wheels are configured to have a smaller torque transmission capacity and a smaller size than those of constant velocity joints which are provided on the power transmission path to the front wheels.
