  • Patent number: 7447477
Abstract: A sheet processing apparatus which is capable of improving operability while suppressing an increase in apparatus size. In a front cover insertion mode, an insertion sheet for a front cover is inserted into a bundle of sheets on which images have been formed, and in a rear cover insertion mode, an insertion sheet for a rear cover is inserted into the bundle of sheets. Insertion sheets for the front cover and insertion sheets for the rear cover are set with the same orientation in a manual feed tray 105. An insertion sheet for the front cover stored in the manual feed tray 105 is conveyed to a finisher 500 in one of a face-down state and a face-up state. An insertion sheet for the rear cover stored in the manual feed tray 105 is conveyed to the finisher 500 in the other of the face-down state and the face-up state. • Patent number: 7441774
Abstract: There is provided a sheet conveying apparatus which is capable of easily distinguishing between a sheet bundle containing abnormal sheets, such as multi-fed sheets, and a normal sheet bundle. When it is determined that there is no abnormality in the conveyance of sheets to a processing tray (630), a finisher control section (501) causes a bundle of sheets stacked on the processing tray (630) to be discharged onto a stack tray (700), whereas when it is determined that there is abnormality in the conveyance of sheets to the processing tray (630), the finisher control section (501) causes the bundle of the sheets stacked on the processing tray (630) to be discharged onto a sample tray (701).

  • Publication number: 20080237965
Abstract: An image forming system which is capable of preventing paper jam from occurring in a sheet processing apparatus to thereby maintain the stability of the system. An alignment plates of an alignment unit movable in a lateral direction each sheet are brought into abutment with opposite side edges of sheets stacked on the sheet stack unit to laterally align the sheets. A lateral registration sensor unit detects a lateral position of the sheet being conveyed. When the detected lateral position of the sheet is beyond a predetermined position, the CPU of the apparatus changes the standby positions of the alignment plates such that spacing therebetween in the lateral direction the sheet is widened by a predetermined amount, and extends the conveying interval of sheets in the image forming apparatus by a predetermined time period.

  • Patent number: 7413178
Abstract: A sheet processing apparatus which is capable of accurately superimposing or aligning sheets discharged from an image forming apparatus during buffering even when the space intervals between the sheets are reduced. A sheet processing apparatus sequentially receives sheets discharged from an image forming apparatus and carries out post-processing on the sheets. During execution of the post-processing on the sheets, a plurality of sheets are discharged successively from the image forming apparatus and superimposed one upon another around a buffer roller. The conveying speed of the sheets is controlled such that a conveying time period over which a sheet preceding a final one of the sheets to be superimposed one upon another around the buffer roller is conveyed over a predetermined path section is shorter than a conveying time period over which the final one is conveyed over the predetermined path section.

  • Publication number: 20080122156
Abstract: A sheet processing apparatus which enable users to easily set the cutting amount of sheets according to the intended purpose of use. A folding unit folds the sheets. A cutting unit cuts off ends of the folded sheets. A setting unit sets details of processing of the sheets to be executed at least by the center-folding unit and the cutting unit. The setting unit is capable of selecting a first cutting amount-setting mode in which a cutting amount is set using a cutting width of the at least one end, and a second cutting amount-setting mode in which the cutting amount is set using a sheet size which the sheets should have after being cut. The setting unit sets the cutting amount in a selected one of the first cutting amount-setting mode and the second cutting amount-setting mode, when setting details of processing of the sheets to be executed by the cutting unit.

  • Publication number: 20070292183
Abstract: A sheet processing apparatus is coupled to an image forming apparatus having a first print mode and a second print mode in which an interval between sheets is larger than that in the first print mode when images are formed on sheets. The sheet processing apparatus includes a stapling unit to perform a stapling process on a bundle of image-formed sheets, and a controller to control the stapling unit. The controller controls the stapling unit such that a moving speed, at which the stapling unit presses the sheet bundle during the stapling process, is set lower in the second print mode than in the first print mode.

  • Patent number: 7296791
Abstract: There is provided an image forming apparatus that is capable of preventing input errors and eliminating the necessity of complicated input operations in making settings for a sheet mixing operation in which color image output sheets and black-and-white image output sheets are mixed into one group. A stacker tray stores sheets with color images formed thereon by a color MFP and is equipped with a storage device, into and from which information relating to the sheets can be written and read. A black-and-white MFP operates in response to attachment of the stacker tray to an inserter attached to the black-and-white MFP, to execute an image formation job by providing control such that the sheets with color images formed thereon stored in the stacker tray and sheets with black-and-white images formed thereon by the black-and-white MFP are mixed according to the information stored in the storage device of the stacker tray.

  • Patent number: 7248377
Abstract: There are provided an image forming apparatus and a method of controlling the same are provided, which are capable of conveying an insert sheet of a proper page in carrying out a recovery process and simplifying the recovery process, and a storage medium storing a program for executing the method. When a printing start instruction is input and an insert mode has been set, an insert sheet is fed. It is determined whether the insert sheet is for a top page of a copy (bundle) or not. When the insert sheet for the top page is detected, a proper printing operation in the insert mode is started. If the insert sheet is not determined to be for the top page, it is judged that the insert sheet has not been correctly set on the inserter tray, and then the insert sheet is discharged to a non-sort tray. Then, insert sheets are discharged to the non-sort tray until the insert sheet for the top page is detected.
