Abstract: A wearable protective device includes headwear having a brim and a germicidal light source attached to the brim. An optical reflective channel is designed to direct light generated by the germicidal light source away from the headwear and downward to illuminate area in front of a wearer's face. The headwear may be virtually any type of brimmed head garment. The germicidal light source is preferably an ultraviolet light source that generates UV-C light radiation to destroy airborne pathogens, including bacteria and viruses.

Abstract: A vehicle lavatory monument assembly that includes an enclosure having a plurality of walls that cooperate to define a lavatory interior, an entry door positioned on one of the plurality of walls, and a UV sanitization system that includes a first light module positioned in the lavatory interior. The first light module includes an ultraviolet light source that emits ultraviolet light rays and a lens member. The UV sanitization system also includes a first reflective surface having a reflective coating thereon, a first direct surface to be sanitized, and a first indirect surface to be sanitized. The lens member is configured to direct ultraviolet light rays to the first direct surface to be sanitized and to direct ultraviolet light rays to the first reflective surface. The first reflective surface is angled to direct ultraviolet light rays to the first indirect surface to be sanitized.

Abstract: Surface disinfection for enclosures with Ultra-Violet (UV) light and illuminating such enclosures with visible light. Particular embodiments relate to limiting the transmission of viruses and bacteria in the interior space of an aircraft, such as a lavatory, through the use of UV light application, while providing visible light to passengers of such lavatory, both in a safe and compliant manner. This disclosure provides a lighting system and method that combines a visible light emitter and a UV light emitter into a single light system module. Although UV light is a preferred method of neutralizing pathogens, its use is not safe for human exposure. Accordingly, the disclosed lighting system is capable of detecting the presence of an occupant within an enclosure or defined space and only allows the visible light emitter to function (and prevents the UV light emitter from functioning) while people or animals are present within the electromagnetic range for the lighting system.
