Publication number: 20050109175Abstract: A spindle liner for use with in a spindle of a lathe or turning machine for supporting stock to be worked including a plurality of tube sections having a diameter selected to permit these sections to be placed end to end within the spindle. Each tube section has a passageway extending the length thereof and has threaded male and female connectors at opposite ends. The liner includes a plurality of tube inserts, each of which can be mounted within the tube passageway of a respective one of the tube sections. Each insert defines an axial passageway through which the stock to be worked can pass in a close filling manner. The tube sections and inserts are constructed so that the inserts are kept in a desired spaced-apart relationship in the liner.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 26, 2003Publication date: May 26, 2005Inventor: Tymen Clay

Patent number: 6000447Abstract: A mechanism for clamping a banjo (10) toolrest or toolrest bracket to a lathe bed (51) which makes use of a sliding cam (40) which is actuated by a drive shaft (18). The cam is supported independently of the drive shaft by a support block (12) resting on a ledge (14) wich is formed in the base of the banjo. The cam is slidable with respect to the drive shaft along the length of this ledge on the banjo. This structure allows for sturdy clamping with minimal deflection at a predicable catching position along the length of the banjo rest. An eye bolt (20) is used to connect the cam to a clamping plate (22) which is positioned below two, spaced-apart rails (50) extending along the top of the lathe bed. The banjo rest has a generally open bottom (94) through which the shank of the eye bolt extends. Opposite ends of the drive shaft are rotatably supported by end walls (74, 76) of the banjo rest.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1998Date of Patent: December 14, 1999Inventor: Tymen Clay

Patent number: 5464231Abstract: A chuck for holding a workpiece in a machine such as a lathe including a jaw holder having a front side facing in the direction of the workpiece and radially extending slots in this front side. There is a mechanism for attaching the holder to the machine for turning about a central axis. Several jaw devices are detachably mounted in these slots and are radially movable therein. Each jaw device has an inner workpiece engaging surface that forms a profile when it is viewed from the front of the jaw device in the direction of the central axis. This profile comprises a central concave arc and two similar convex curves located at opposite ends of the concave arc. In a preferred version, the chuck is a scroll chuck having a scroll member rotatably mounted in the holder. The workpiece engaging surfaces can be serrated to increase gripping ability.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1994Date of Patent: November 7, 1995Inventor: Tymen Clay

Patent number: 5141239Abstract: An improved scroll chuck for holding a workpiece in a lathe including a jaw holder having a front side and a rear side, radially extending slots in the front side and means for attaching the holder to the lathe for turning about a central axis. Two or more jaw devices are mounted in the slots and are radially movable therein. A scroll member is rotatably mounted on the holder and has a spiral-shaped rib formed on a front surface thereof. This rib extends along recesses formed on the jaw devices whereby rotation of the scroll member causes the jaw devices to move in the radial direction. A pin member is arranged on one of the jaw devices and extends from a rearwardly facing surface of the device and into an elongate recess formed in the holder. This pin member prevents the jaw device from accidentally disengaging from the holder.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1991Date of Patent: August 25, 1992Inventor: Tymen Clay

Patent number: 4290737Abstract: A ram type pump is disclosed for pumping manure from a collection area to a storage area. The pump has a hollow cylindrical housing having a transfer portion and an actuator portion. Manure is pushed through the transfer portion by a reciprocating cylindrical ram slidably located in the housing. The ram is operated by a hydraulic actuator located in the housing actuator portion. The housing actuator portion is releasably coupled to the transfer portion. This releasable coupling retains a removable bearing and seal assembly concentrically located for sliding, sealing engagement of the ram. The housing transfer portion includes a guide bearing assembly for concentric sliding engagement of the ram during reciprocating movement of the ram. Also, the housing actuator portion includes radially disposed guide means for quick axial alignment of the ram in the housing.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1979Date of Patent: September 22, 1981Inventor: Tymen Clay
