  • Patent number: 8328514
Abstract: A method for controlling operation of a wind turbine is described. The wind turbine includes a rotor having a plurality of rotor blades. The method includes measuring an atmospheric condition associated with the environment surrounding the wind turbine, providing the measured atmospheric condition to a processor, and determining at least one monitor set point limit based at least partially on the measured atmospheric condition. The method also includes applying the at least one monitor set point limit to wind turbine operation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 11, 2009
Date of Patent: December 11, 2012
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Renjith Viripullan, Thomas Edenfeld, Vijendra Singh Chauhan, Lothar Wittekind, Udo Ahmann
  • Patent number: 8123478
Abstract: A method for monitoring a condition of a rotor blade of a wind turbine is provided. The method includes transmitting, from a sensor to a controller, at least one monitoring signal indicative of a vibration of the rotor blade. The condition of the rotor blade is calculated by the controller based on the monitoring signal.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 26, 2010
Date of Patent: February 28, 2012
    Assignee: General Electric Company
    Inventor: Udo Ahmann
  • Patent number: 8050887
Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention may provide a method and system for detecting icing on at least one wind turbine blade. An embodiment of the present invention takes the form of a software application and process that utilizes the measured wind speed to detect icing on at least one wind turbine blade.
    Type: Grant
