  • Patent number: 9097464
Abstract: A continuous scrap feed into an electric smelting furnace (EAF) having a channel connected at one end to an opening in a wall of the smelting furnace and has at its other end a charging device for the scrap. An extraction device for the off-gases which are guided through the channel serve to preheat the scrap, this extraction device being connected to the channel between the two ends of the channel located closer to the smelting furnace than the scrap feed in relation to the total length of the channel. The extraction device is a single-stage blower whose intake opening is oriented in the direction of the smelting furnace, and the clear cross section of the channel between the extraction device and the scrap feed is adapted to the amount of scrap so that the height of the scrap charge substantially fills the clear cross section.

  • Publication number: 20100064856
Abstract: A process for producing steel and for obtaining slag having a high content of additional elements such as vanadium in a two-step process. Liquid pig iron is initially blown onto a high-grade slag at a lower temperature, the slag being further processed separately after tapping, while the pig iron is supplied to at least one additional converter in which it is blown at a higher temperature to form steel. A high-grade slag is generated while shortening the steel production process using the process in that the intermediate metal product that is tapped from the first converter is subjected to a heating and/or holding phase before being supplied to the second converter.

  • Publication number: 20100044931
Abstract: The invention relates to a metallurgical vessel (1), in particular an arc furnace, having a holding container (2) for metal melt and having a lid (3), by means of which the holding container (2) can be at least partially covered, wherein the metallurgical vessel also has at least one lance (4, 5) for the supply of a medium into the metallurgical vessel (1), and wherein the at least one lance (4, 5) is pivotably arranged on or in the metallurgical vessel (1). In order to be able to introduce a medium into the interior of the furnace in an improved manner, the invention provides that at least one lance (4, 5) is arranged in the region of the lid (3) of the metallurgical vessel (1) on a revolute joint (6) which has a rotational axis aligned in a horizontal direction (H).

  • Patent number: 6451136
Abstract: A method for producing hot-rolled strip and plates in a production plant having a continuous casting installation for slabs 100-180 mm thick, descaling sprays, a single- or multiple-stand rolling unit with or without edging, a cooling interval, a heating furnace, and a Steckel mill. Between the continuous casting installation and the heating furnace, only the skin layer of the previously descaled slab is deformed in-line, recrystallized during and after deformation, and then cooled in several stages to a temperature below the Ar3 transformation point and temporarily maintained there until the microstructural transformation of the recrystallized, fine-grained austenite to ferrite/pearlite has been completed.
