  • Patent number: 4163861
Abstract: An aromatic urethane (e.g., methyl naphthyl urethane) is prepared by reacting an aromatic hydroxy compound, such as alpha-naphthol, with an aliphatic urethane, such as dimethyl urethane, in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a Lewis acid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 15, 1977
Date of Patent: August 7, 1979
    Assignee: Snamprogetti S.p.A.
    Inventors: Gabriello Illuminati, Ugo Romano
  • Patent number: 4100351
Abstract: In the preparation of aromatic urethans, a dialkyl carbonate is reacted with an N-acyl derivative of an amine: thus, for example, by reacting acetanilide with a lower dialkyl carbonate, such as DMC or DEC, in the presence of titanium tetraphenate (Lewis' acid), phenylmethyl urethan is obtained with a yield over 90%. No toxic reactants are used and the reaction has outstandingly high yields and conversion ratings. The urethane in question are useful as weed-killers and pesticides in agriculture.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 24, 1977
Date of Patent: July 11, 1978
    Assignee: Anic, S.p.A.
    Inventors: Ugo Romano, Renato Tesei
  • Patent number: 4097676
Abstract: Aromatic urethans are prepared by reacting aromatic carbonates with aliphatic amines, within an organic solvent or not. It is preferred that a stoichiometric quantity of the amine be employed to prevent the formation of urea by-products which are likely to be formed if an excess of the amine is used. The temperature should not exceed 100.degree. C, the interval between 20.degree. and 40.degree. C being preferred. Nearly quantitative yields are obtained.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 22, 1976
Date of Patent: June 27, 1978
    Assignee: Anic S.p.A.
    Inventor: Ugo Romano
  • Patent number: 4062884
Abstract: A process for the preparation of dialkylcarbonates by reacting an alcohol with a cyclic carbonate, wherein the reaction is carried out in the presence of an organic base, preferably a tertiary aliphatic amine, at a temperature of between 50.degree. and 150.degree. C and at a pressure of between 0.1 and 10 kg./sq.cm., the conversion of dialkylcarbonate being selective and avoiding the need of removing inorganic by-products.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 8, 1976
Date of Patent: December 13, 1977
    Assignee: ANIC, S.p.A.
    Inventors: Ugo Romano, Ugo Melis
  • Patent number: 4046810
Abstract: Diphenylamine, or the alkyl, phenyl, amino, alkoxy, hydroxy or halogen derivative thereof, is prepared through a continuous process wherein a stream of the corresponding imine (e.g. N-cyclohexylidene aniline) in the vapor phase and oxygen are fed to a reactor maintained at a temperature in the range from 300.degree. to 450.degree. C, at a rate providing a contact time between the reactants in the range of 0.1 to 20 seconds.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 24, 1975
Date of Patent: September 6, 1977
    Assignee: SNAM Progetti S.p.A.
Inventors: Pietro Antonio Moggi, Ugo Romano
  • Patent number: 4045464
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing diaryl carbonates starting from phenyl alkyl carbonates, the reaction being carried out in the presence of suitable catalysts capable of affording greater yields and selectivity; the catalyst system is selected amongst the Lewis acids or the compounds of transition metals.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 1, 1975
Date of Patent: August 30, 1977
    Assignee: Anic, S.p.A.
    Inventors: Ugo Romano, Renato Tesei
