  • Patent number: 4986232
Abstract: An arrangement for the recognition of misfirings of internal combustion engines with externally supplied ignition in which for the recognition of misfirings, the cylinders are combined into two groups and an ignition system of its own is coordinated to each group; a thermo-element is thereby arranged in the exhaust tract of a cylinder of each group. A pair of thermo-elements is series-connected in opposite polarity and the resulting thermo-voltage at the free ends is monitored by means of two threshold circuits. From the amount and sign of the resulting thermo-voltage, a defective ignition system can be determined and the corresponding cylinder group can be turned off.

  • Patent number: 4854646
Abstract: A rim for a motor vehicle wheel with several through-openings which are arranged on a concentric aperture circle of the wheel circumferentially with respect to a wheel brake and which form air inlet and outlets. The openings are constructed semi-circularly shaped and include an arcuately shaped outer boundary surface and an arcuately shaped inner boundary surface. The outer boundary surface is formed each by a section of the aperture circle and the further inner boundary surface adjoins this section. The arc of this boundary surface extends up to a concentric inner circle of the wheel which has a smaller radius.

  • Patent number: 4779577
Abstract: To control the cooling air requirements of an internal combustion engine and additional assemblies on a motor vehicle, a combination of cooling air flaps adjustable by an electric motor and a ventilator blower whose rpm is adjustable and which are powered by electric motors is used. One closed, one partially open, and one fully open position of the cooling air flaps as well as the rotational speed of the blower are controlled as a function of the cooling requirements of the internal combustion engine and the states of an air conditioner, a temperature of an automatic transmission fluid, a temperature of an intake manifold of the internal combustion engine, and the position of an ignition switch and an engine hood contact switch in such fashion that a cooling air stream which changes nearly continuously with the cooling requirements is created in the cooling air duct.
