Abstract: The sugar content of plants is increased by a method in which the plants are treated, from 1 to 15 weeks prior to harvesting, with a compound of the formula (I) ##STR1## where R.sup.1 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, unsubstituted or halogen-substituted alkenyl of 3 to 5 carbon atoms or alkynyl of not more than 5 carbon atoms, R.sup.3 is a non-aromatic heterocyclic structure which has 5 to 7 ring members and no double bonds or one double bond in a heterocyclic ring, contains 1 or 2 hetero atoms from the group consisting of sulfur and oxygen, and can be substituted by alkyl of not more than 3 carbon atoms, and X is H or C00-alkyl, or one of its plant-tolerated salts.

Abstract: O,S-dialkyl S-[carbamyloxyalkyl] dithiophosphates of the general formula (I) ##STR1## where, independently of one another, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each alkyl of not more than 4 carbon atoms and R.sup.3, R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are each hydrogen or alkyl of not more than 6 carbon atoms, or R.sup.4 and R.sup.5, together with the nitrogen atom to which they are bonded, form a saturated or olefinically unsaturated ring which contains not more than 6 carbon atoms and may or may not contain one or more oxygen, sulfur or nitrogen atoms, are used for controlling insects or mites.

Abstract: N-Methoxy-N-methylurethanes are prepared by a process in which first (1) hydroxylamine is converted with an alkyl chloroformate to the corresponding N-hydroxyurethane, then (2) this product is reacted with a methylating agent to give the N-methoxy-N-methylurethane, and finally (3) the N-methoxy-N-methylurethane is isolated. In this process, first, (1) while maintaining a certain temperature and a certain pH, (1.1) an aqueous solution of an inorganic hydroxylammonium salt is mixed thoroughly with (1.2) an equimolar amount of an alkyl chloroformate, then (2) while maintaining a certain temperature and a certain pH, (2.1) a mixture comprising (2.1.1) the reaction mixture obtained as described in (1), (2.1.2) a water-insoluble organic solvent and (2.1.3) a phase-transfer catalyst is mixed thoroughly with (2.2) a water-insoluble methylating agent which is soluble in the solvent under (2.1.

Abstract: Novel phenylcarbamic acid chlorides, and their preparation by reacting N-mono-substituted phenylenediamines with excess phosgene and then reacting the products with thioalcohols, alcohols, hydroxylamines or amines.The novel phenylcarbamic acid chlorides of the formula I obtainable by the process of the invention are valuable intermediates for the preparation of crop protection agents, especially herbicides.
