  • Patent number: 4916961
Abstract: A manually actuated valve in a four-speed automatic transmission includes a cam means for moving the manually actuated valve in response to driver selected operating modes of the transmission which allows fluid flow between the fluid source and the proper clutch apply piston to actuate the corresponding clutch.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 13, 1989
Date of Patent: April 17, 1990
    Assignee: Chrysler Corporation
Inventors: Gerald L. Holbrook, Uno Kuusik
  • Patent number: 4907681
Abstract: A park locking mechanism for a four-speed automatic transmission in which the rollers have oversized bores to reduce the reaction loads transmitted to the carrier pins so as to increase the service life of the carrier pins and rollers.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 29, 1988
Date of Patent: March 13, 1990
    Assignee: Chrysler Motors Corporation
Inventors: Uno Kuusik, Ronald J. Plotzke
  • Patent number: 4887512
Abstract: A system which provides a vent reservoir to maintain a fluid level above the vent of the solenoid-actuated valves which ensures that the fluid passages are filled with fluid to provide rapid hydraulic response of the fluid system while allowing trapped air to automatically escape or vent.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 29, 1988
Date of Patent: December 19, 1989
    Assignee: Chrysler Motors Corporation
Inventors: Maurice B. Leising, Uno Kuusik
  • Patent number: 4424826
Abstract: A governor control valve is provided in which governor output pressure is varied in response to variations in vehicle speed by moving a valve member radially with respect to a ported shaft carried with a driven housing which drivingly carries a centrifugal force responsive weight mechanism. The ball valve and the weight mechanism are connected by a yoke member whose mass center is aligned with the axis of rotation of the housing and shaft.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 17, 1982
Date of Patent: January 10, 1984
    Assignee: Chrysler Corporation
    Inventor: Uno Kuusik
  • Patent number: 4194520
Abstract: A pair of piston valve members are slidably mounted in a housing rotatably engaging the output shaft of the automatic transmission. A first piston valve moves freely under the influence of centrifugal force within the housing to throttle line pressure from a pump in the transmission to a governed pressure level used for performing shifting functions within the transmission and the second piston valve member is spring biased against the influence of centrifugal force to prevent its movement under the influence thereof until a predetermined output shaft speed is reached whereupon it throttles the line pressure supplied by the transmission pump and directs it to a portion of the first piston valve to vary the operation thereof upon further increases in output shaft speed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 24, 1978
Date of Patent: March 25, 1980
    Assignee: Chrysler Corporation
    Inventor: Uno Kuusik
  • Patent number: 4095487
Abstract: Automatic Power Transmission apparatus having output members extending in opposite directions to and generally parallel to the axis of rotation of the engine crankshaft. A transfer shaft has a gear on opposite ends thereof to transfer the output of one portion of the drive train back to another portion of the drive train which is located in general planar alignment with the input to the apparatus.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 11, 1976
Date of Patent: June 20, 1978
    Assignee: Chrysler Corporation
Inventors: Bert W. Cartwright, Dugald Cameron, James A. Hagaman, Robert A. Hoetger, Uno Kuusik, William Nortman
  • Patent number: 4082103
Abstract: Hydraulic governor having two centrifugal force controlled valves connected to a transmission output shaft. A relay valve is attached to the transmission case and connected hydraulically to the governor. Line pressure fluid supplied to the relay valve is modified to a value relating to the speed of rotation of the output shaft by the centrifugal force controlled valves in the governor.
