  • Patent number: 8044297
Abstract: A land electrode for a high voltage direct current transmission system including a converter station with a grounding point. The land electrode is connected to the grounding point and includes a plurality of electrode sections. A line electrode includes a part interconnecting two electrode sections. The part of the line electrode exhibits a line resistance. Each electrode section includes at least one electrode element.

  • Patent number: 7939751
Abstract: A return path between a first HVDC station and a second HVDC station. A first electrode is connected to the first station and a second electrode is connected to the second station. The return path includes a first part including a first low resistive zone through the crust of the earth in which the first electrode is embedded. A second part includes the earth mantle. A third part includes a second low resistive zone through the crust of the earth in which the second electrode is embedded.

  • Patent number: 7830679
Abstract: A HVDC transmission system including at one end of a bipolar HVDC transmission line a converter station for connecting the transmission line to an AC system. The station has two converters and a DC neutral arrangement in common to the converters. The DC neutral arrangement has a separate electrode line connecting member connecting to electrode lines. The electrode lines are dimensioned to be able to at monopolar operation of the converter station transmit substantially full current to an electrode station through the remaining one or ones of the electrode lines at disconnection of an arbitrary of the electrode lines.

  • Patent number: 6084787
Abstract: A device for supervising different positions of a valve of a high voltage converter station located on a high voltage potential level comprises members arranged on a high voltage potential level and adapted to detect function parameters of the valve on a high voltage potential level and send values detected thereby to first control units for controlling the semiconductor components of the valve. The first control units have devices for processing the detected values and the first control units are adapted to utilize light conductors running back therefrom to a valve control unit for sending data resulting from the processing to an arrangement for supervising the valve located on a low potential level.

  • Patent number: 5969956
Abstract: An apparatus and method for communication between low potential level and a valve of a high voltage converter station located on high voltage potential level is provided. The apparatus comprises means adapted to send serial messages on light conductors between a valve control unit and a first control unit for controlling semiconductor components of the valve of turn-on type on high voltage potential level in periods of time when the respective light conductor is free from signals associated with a change in the conducting state of the semiconductor component, such as turn-on and/or indications signals.

  • Patent number: 5666277
Abstract: A series-compensated converter station in an installation for transmission of high-voltage direct current is connected to an alternating-voltage network (N) with three phases (A, B, C, respectively). The converter station comprises at least two direct-voltage series-connected six-pulse converter bridges (SR1, SR2, respectively), a three-phase transformer coupling with two secondary windings (SW1, SW2, respectively), and a star-connected primary winding (PW) with a neutral point (NP) connected to ground as well as a series capacitor unit (CN) for each one of the three phases. Each one of the converter bridges is connected to a respective secondary winding and the primary winding is connected to the alternating-voltage network via the series-capacitor units. The transformer coupling exhibits a high impedance to zero-sequence currents through the primary winding of the transformer coupling.
