  • Patent number: 6033211
Abstract: An apparatus for drying a moving substrate containing a multiplicity of infrared emitters and a detection emitter and a device for supplying a mixture of air and gas to these emitters. The detection emitter contains an emitter body with a diffuser for distributing a fuel-oxygen containing gas mixture, a primary radiator having a combustion surface integrally connected to the emitter body, a first detection electrode, and a second detection electrode; each of these detection electrodes sends a signal to a control means when it senses the presence of flame-induced ionization. If the control means receives a signal from one but not both of these detection electrodes, it will continue supplying the air/gas mixture to the emitters. However, only when the control means ceases receiving a signal from both of the detection electrodes will it ceases allowing the supply of the air/gas mixture to the emitters.

  • Patent number: 6007329
Abstract: A gas fired infrared radiation emitter which contains a back-body provided with a distributor, a primary radiator having a combustion surface, and frame which contains four receptacles, each of which is integrally connected to the frame. A screen is removably attached to the frame receptacles by means of two bars, each of which is disposed within the receptacles and is free to move within the receptacles in either direction for a distance of at least about 0.15 inches. Stop surfaces are provided, however, for limiting the amount of longitudinal movement of the bars within the receptacles. The bars each have a length which does not exceed the length of the frame; and they can readily be removed from the receptacles.

  • Patent number: 5969231
Abstract: The invention provides a sensor arrangement for monitoring the concentrat of moisture and gaseous substances in ambient air. A gas sensitive intermediate layer is sandwiched between top and bottom electrodes, each of which comprises first and second interdigitated conductive elements, which are coupled to an opposite polarity voltage. The top and bottom electrodes are super-imposed on opposite sides of the gas-sensitive intermediate layer, with fingers of the top electrode having a voltage polarity which is opposite that of adjacent super-imposed fingers of the bottom electrode.

  • Patent number: 5606805
Abstract: A process for drying a web of material moving at a speed of at least about 150 feet per minute. In the first step of the process, a web of material is contacted with a first mixture of air and flue gas while passing the web under a first air nozzle. Thereafter, a portion of the first air/flue gas mixture is exhausted through a first exhaust nozzle disposed less than 12 inches away from the first air nozzle. Thereafter, the web is passed under a multiplicity of gas fired infrared radiation emitting burners while contacting said moving web with infrared radiation and flue gas and heating said moving web to a temperature of from about 100 to about 280 degrees Fahrenheit. Thereafter, the web is contacted with a second mixture of air and flue gas while passing it under a second air nozzle.
