  • Publication number: 20080192796
Abstract: A method for operating an electric-arc furnace with at least one electrode has one tapping method step. At the beginning of the tapping step, the energy supply to the at least one electrode (2) of the electric-arc furnace (1) is not stopped and the energy is still supplied to the at least one electrode (2) even during the tapping step. The step can begin before the traditional operating methods of an electric-arc furnace (1). This saves time, reduces the consumption of electrodes and energy, and also increases productivity. The desired energy content of the raw steel (8) is secured by the pre-calculation of the alteration of the energy content of the melt (4) during the tapping step and the danger of over-heating is compensated.

  • Publication number: 20050267612
Abstract: A mathematical model for a metallurgical engineering system and a method for optimizing the operation of a metallurgical engineering system by means of said model. A plurality of units (7-12) of a metallurgical engineering system (6) are modeled by means of a mathematical model. Said units are associated with supply and discharge media flows. In order to optimize operation of the system (6), structural parameters are supplied to an optimization computer (1) by a user (5). The structural parameters establish at least the number and type of units (7-12). On the basis of start parameters, which describe the initial states of the units (7-12), and an evaluation criterion (K), the optimization computer (1) determines optimized operating parameters according to an optimization algorithm (A) using said model.

  • Patent number: 6941636
Abstract: A casting-rolling plant and a method of operating a casting-rolling plant are disclosed. At least one slab production line (40, 50) and at least one mill train (4) as well as at least one slab feeding device (20) that is independent of the slab production line (40, 50) with respect to the production process are provided. In order to achieve a higher throughput in the production of strip material, the slab feeding device (20) takes over slab feed to the mill train (4) during a production break of the slab production line (40, 50) in accordance with logistic and/or manufacturing standards up to a maximum output possible.

  • Patent number: 6880616
Abstract: A method and device for producing a strand of metal by means of a continuous-casting installation which has at least one cooling device for cooling the strand, the cooling device being assigned at least one reduction stand for reducing the thickness of the strand, the strand, during the thickness reduction, having a solidified skin and a liquid core. The cooling is set, by means of a temperature and solidification model, in such a manner that the solidification boundary between the solidified skin and the liquid core when the strand enters the reduction stand corresponds to a predetermined set solidification boundary between the solidified skin and the liquid core.

  • Patent number: 6505676
Abstract: A method and device are provided for casting a strand of liquid metal which is cast into a mold, and which is drawn as a strand out of the mold. The casting level, e.g., a level of the liquid metal in the mold, is regulated to a predetermined casting-level desired value using a casting-level controller having at least one integrator. The output of the integrator of the casting-level controller is replaced by a predetermined value when the difference between the casting-level actual value and the casting-level desired value exceeds a tolerance threshold.
