  • Publication number: 20190099114
Abstract: A fall detection device having a wearable housing, a processor, a sensor system operatively connected to the processor and configured to detect a physiological condition of the wearer's body, a motion sensor, a wireless communication module processor, and a memory. The memory stores computer readable instructions that cause the processor to: monitor the motion sensor to detect a decrease in acceleration in the gravitational direction below a first threshold; start a timer upon detecting the decrease in acceleration; monitor the motion sensor to detect a fall-indicative acceleration above a second level prior to the timer reaching a first predetermined time; monitor the motion sensor to detect a recovery-indicative acceleration above a third level prior to the timer reaching a second predetermined time; and activate the wireless communication module to initiate an emergency alert if the fall-indicative acceleration is detected and the recovery-indicative acceleration is not detected.

  • Patent number: 10117598
Abstract: There is disclosed a respiration rate monitoring system and method using a non-invasive device and method of monitoring it nearly continuously. One aspect includes receiving a series of signal data points from an optical sensor, detecting a series of peaks or valleys for the filtered signal data points, determining the time difference between individual peaks or valleys of the series of peaks or valleys to produce a series of time difference values, detecting peaks or valleys for the series of time difference values, determining widths between the peaks or valleys of the series of time difference values, and estimating a respiration rate from the widths between the peaks or valleys of the series of time difference values, and converting the estimation of a respiration rate to an indicator indicative of a respiration rate.

  • Publication number: 20180235489
Abstract: A photoplethysmographic (“PPG”) device having a housing, a band and a first optical sensor. The band extends from the housing and is configured to enclose an attachment site on a user's body. The PPG device has an inner surface oriented to face the attachment site and an outer surface oriented to face away from the attachment site. The first optical sensor includes at least one first optical emitter oriented to selectively emit a respective first light from the outer surface, and at least one first optical receiver oriented to receive a reflected portion of the respective first light returning to the outer surface. The respective first light is selected from one or more wavelengths operative to reflect from one or more of oxyhemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin at an observation site on the user's body, the observation site being remote from the attachment site.
