Abstract: Files and/or file updates can be pre-fetched from a server to reduce file access periods as well as shift network usage from high traffic periods to low traffic periods. For example, a file that was previously expelled from a cache can be pre-fetched from the server prior to a future period in which a client is likely to re-access the file. As another example, a file update for a file that remains stored in the cache can be pre-fetched from the server prior to a future period in which a client is likely to re-access the file. The file update may then be used to update the stored file. The file and/or updated-file can then be provided directly from the cache to the client when the client re-accesses the file.

Abstract: A method for managing a local cache. The method includes receiving an object from a back end server at a local cache for access by one or more users at a local site. The method includes attaching an eviction policy parameter value to the object. The method includes storing the object in the local cache. The method includes evaluating at the local cache the eviction policy parameter value. The method includes evicting the object from the local cache based on the eviction policy parameter.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for pre-fetching files includes parsing a project file to produce a parsed project file and extracting a plurality of files from the parsed project file to produce a file list. The method also includes retrieving, by a caching device from a file server over a network, the plurality of files in accordance with the file list and storing the plurality of files in a cache.
