  • Patent number: 9815176
Abstract: A superabrasive compact and a method of making the superabrasive compact are disclosed. A superabrasive compact may include a plurality of polycrystalline superabrasive particles made of surface functionalized superabrasive particles. The surface functionalized superabrasive particles may have halogens or organic moiety instead of hydrogen.

  • Publication number: 20150329989
Abstract: A synthetic diamond body and method of making the synthetic diamond body are provided. The synthetic diamond body having a low stress and free of cracks may comprise a first single crystal partial volume having the first crystallographic orientation and a one or more of other single crystal partial volumes, wherein the first partial volume occupies less than about 100% of the total volume of synthetic diamond wafer, and each other single crystal partial volume has its own crystallographic orientation; and each other single crystal partial volume comprises a plurality of single crystal volumes all having about the same crystallographic orientation, wherein the crystallographic orientation of each partial volume is fixed against the first crystallographic orientation by a geometrical operation.

  • Publication number: 20140060937
Abstract: A cutting element may comprise a substrate, a first polycrystalline diamond volume, and a second diamond or diamond like volume. The first polycrystalline diamond volume may contain a catalyst material. The first polycrystalline diamond volume may be bonded to the substrate. The second diamond or diamond like volume may be formed predominantly from carbon atoms and free of catalyst materials. The second diamond or diamond like volume may be adjacent to a working surface of cutting element. The second diamond or diamond like volume may be bonded to the first polycrystalline diamond volume.

  • Publication number: 20100209665
Abstract: Disclosed are compositions and methods for producing carbon-based films, for example, ultra smooth diamond nanostructured diamond films. Generally, the disclosed compositions can comprise a noble gas component, hydrogen, a carbon precursor, and nitrogen. Generally, the disclosed methods can comprise the steps of providing a mixture comprising a noble gas, hydrogen, a carbon precursor, and nitrogen, establishing a plasma comprising the mixture; and depositing carbon-containing species from the plasma onto the surface, thereby producing a film on the surface. Generally, the disclosed films exhibit superior average gain size, RMS surface roughness, hardness, relative diamond crystallinity, and surface adhesion. This abstract is intended as a scanning tool for purposes of searching in the particular art and is not intended to be limiting of the present invention.
