  • Patent number: 5635300
Abstract: The invention relates to the field of structural materials intended for operation under conditions of thermal loading in oxidizing media and useful in working units and equipment for petroleum, chemical, aircraft, and metallurgy industries. The invention makes it possible to obtain a material having increased strength properties, heat resistant to oxidizers at a temperature over 1100.degree. C. and ensuring a desired serviceability of parts without additional protective coatings under these conditions. This is attained due to producing a material being a composition of two interpenetrating skeletons: carbon fibers and silicon carbide disposed all through the material structure; the silicon carbide skeleton being the result of interaction between the matrix carbon and silicon self-propagating from outside. The process if characterized by a relatively short production cycle associated with singly conducted operations.

  • Patent number: 4469984
Abstract: A grid-like electrode for electronic components having its grid portion made of fibrous carbon threads bonded by means of the coke of an organic polymer. The grid-like electrode is made by impregnation of each fibrous carbon thread with a liquid organic polymer containing at least 20% by weight of carbon. Then a grid-like electrode is shaped from these threads and subjected to heating until the polymer is irreversibly cured, followed by heating of the polymer to cause pyrolysis thereof to a glossy carbon state.

  • Patent number: 4420539
Abstract: A process for producing antifriction materials comprising heat-treatment of a carbonaceous base--a siliconized graphite consisting of 5 to 25% by weight of silicon, 25 to 55% by weight of silicon carbide, carbon being the balance, in a vacuum of fron 10.sup.-1 to 10.sup.-3 mm Hg at a temperature within the range of from 1,500.degree. to 2,000.degree. C. for a period of from 15 to 60 minutes, followed by impregnation of the carbonaceous base with metals or alloys thereof.

  • Patent number: 4221831
Abstract: In accordance with the proposed method of making antifriction products, a porous carbon blank is heated up to 1,800.degree. to 2,200.degree. C. and impregnated with molten silicon. The impregnation starts at a temperature of 2,100.degree. to 2,200.degree. C. for 3 to 5 minutes, then at 1,800.degree. to 2,050.degree. C. for 30 to 40 minutes. Thereafter, the blank is cooled down to a temperature of 900.degree. to 800.degree. C. at a rate of 30.degree. to 40.degree. C./min, then down to 200.degree. to 150.degree. C. at a rate of 50.degree. to 100.degree. C./min. This permits obtaining products with an even phase distribution, whereby their wear resistance and strength are improved.
