Publication number: 20240014856Abstract: Presented herein are embodiments of a compact handheld integrated cabling assist (CHICA) device that has a form factor of a transceiver. In one or more embodiments, a CHICA embodiment may pair with a cabling assist application (CA-App) to guide a user with cabling decisions. A user may insert a transceiver (optic/DAC) in a mini-cage of the CHICA, wherein the CHICA reads the transceiver data, transmits the data to the CA-App to confirm that the transceiver meets the configuration requirements of the switch port. In one or more embodiments, a user may also interact with the CA-App to write data (e.g., EEPROM fields) to the transceiver by issuing commands via the CHICA device.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 8, 2022Publication date: January 11, 2024Applicant: DELL PRODUCTS L.P.Inventors: Padmanabhan NARAYANAN, Ming Chung CHOW, Vamshidhar VARRE

Patent number: 11818233Abstract: Described herein are embodiments for tracking status of switch ports in network switches using portable LED receivers (PLRs). LED data for a switch port may be transmitted from the network switch to a paired PLR. An electronic device, such as a smartphone, may be used to facilitate the pairing process. The electronic device connects to a network switch via an out of band management network like and pairs with a PLR using a management-plane BLE connection. A user may use an application operating in the electronic device to select a switch port of a network switch, logically associate the selected switch port to the PLR. Upon successful pairing, the PLR establishes a connection to the network switch and receive timestamped and sequenced LED data to drive LEDs on the PLR. The PLRs may enable disaggregation of LEDs from switch ports and provide more user flexibility and convenience.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2021Date of Patent: November 14, 2023Assignee: DELL PRODUCTS L.P.Inventors: Padmanabhan Narayanan, Vamshidhar Varre

Publication number: 20230105893Abstract: Systems and methods for validating transceivers comprise using a first controller to perform a validation prior to granting a second controller access to the transceiver to communicate in a data plane and, otherwise, restricting the second controller from accessing the transceiver and operating in the data plane to isolate the transceiver from the data plane and protect the second controller from an unqualified or rogue transceiver triggering a recovery procedure, reboot procedure, or similar that otherwise would require manual intervention by technical support personnel and increase equipment downtime and cost.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 5, 2021Publication date: April 6, 2023Applicant: DELL PRODUCTS L.P.Inventors: Padmanabhan NARAYANAN, Ming Chung CHOW, Vamshidhar VARRE, Kannan KARUPPIAH

Patent number: 11438073Abstract: An optical transceiver monitoring system includes an optical transceiver device that includes a non-volatile memory system, and a computing device that includes a computing device port that is coupled to the optical transceiver device. The computing device monitors the computing device port and, in response, detects one or more interactions between the optical transceiver device and the computing device. The computing device determines that the one or more interactions satisfy an event condition, and in response to the one or more interactions satisfying the event condition, provides first event information that corresponds to the one or more interactions to the optical transceiver device for storage in the non-volatile memory system.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2021Date of Patent: September 6, 2022Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Sudharsan Dhamal Gopalarathnam, Vamshidhar Varre

Patent number: 11153168Abstract: A link validation system includes a first device and a second device. The first device identifies that a first link to the second device has become available via a first port on the first device, and determines that the first link to the second device is not a valid link. In response to determining that the first link to the second device is not a valid link, the first device configures the first port in an auto-negotiation error state. Subsequent to configuring the first port in the auto-negotiation error state, the first device detects a port connection cycling operation associated with the first port and, in response, clears the auto-negotiation error state for the first port.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2021Date of Patent: October 19, 2021Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Sudharsan Dhamal Gopalarathnam, Vamshidhar Varre

Patent number: 10715389Abstract: An automatic controller configuration system includes a chassis having a port. A transceiver connected to the port utilizes a number of lanes. A controller in the chassis is coupled to the port. The number of lanes utilized by the transceiver are identified, and the controller is configured to operate at a first speed utilizing the number of lanes. In response to detecting a signal transmitted by the transceiver and determining that a link provided via the transceiver has not been established with the controller operating at the first speed, the controller is reconfigured to operate at a second speed. In response to detecting the signal transmitted by the transceiver and determining that the link provided via the transceiver has been established with the controller operating at the second speed, the controller provides for communications with at least one device via the transceiver and at the second speed.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2018Date of Patent: July 14, 2020Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Sudharsan Dhamal Gopalarathnam, Vamshidhar Varre
