  • Patent number: 9085748
Abstract: A chemical composition for eliminating and inhibiting formation of scaling in pipes caused by, for example, barium sulfate, calcium sulfate, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, barium carbonate and ferric oxide. The chemical composition is comprised of a volume of an inorganic salt (0-12%), an organic monocarboxylic acid (0-45%), an organic di- or tricarboxylic acid (0-45%), an inorganic acid (0-15%), a salt derived from an organic carboxylic acid (0-15%), a corrosion inhibitor comprised of a mixture of amines or alcohols of high molecular weight (0-15%), and potable or sea water (0-92%). A biocide provides for gradual decomposition of precipitates without forming insoluble agglomerates. Elimination occurs through solubilization and dissolution of precipitates in an aqueous medium. Inhibition occurs through interference of anion-cation interactions of potential precipitation-forming ions preventing precipitate formation.

  • Patent number: 9045676
Abstract: This invention refers to the production and use of a petroleum asphaltene handler additive compound which when applied in heavy oil, causes asphaltenes to remain in suspension or dissolve, producing a viscosity reduction effect that prevents formation of precipitation of asphaltenic conglomerates in oil wells and storage tanks, as well as prevents pipelines from being obstructed. The molecular binding of the components of this new additive compound is such that the final liquid may be miscible in all types of oil. There are currently solubility models using different methods for handling asphaltenes; some of which use solvents which generate other problems to the physical and chemical stability of the oil, while others, as for example with the use of steam or heat, provide a temporary solution because the oil ultimately returns to the initial conditions thereof owing to the use of reversible processes.

  • Publication number: 20140374090
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus and a method for opening and closing an automatic valve installed in the discharge line of an oil well, characterized by the installation and setup of the apparatus which controls an automatic valve, which is installed in the discharge line of the casing pipes of an oil well. In said oil well a progressive cavity pump system (PCP) has been installed, which pumps the hydrocarbon to the storage tank through the production pipe, said system maintaining the level of hydrocarbon inside the well for improved production. The apparatus to be installed in the oil well consists of three pressure transmitters, which are placed in the discharge lines of the production pipes, casing pipes and in the discharge line going into the storage tank near the well. In addition, in the storage tank, a radar-type level transmitter is installed to keep monitoring the production from the oil well.

  • Publication number: 20140066351
Abstract: This invention refers to a stabilized pipe scaling remover and inhibitor compound, where a useful formulation is presented for the dissolution of scaling such as barium sulfate, calcium sulfate, calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, barium carbonate and ferric oxide. This formulation is made up by a stabilized group of organic and inorganic acids, in addition to amines or alcohols of a high molecular weight which make it a low-corrosion, highly-effective fluid. The possible fluids to be obtained from this document ensure the least amount of damage to the pipes used for its transportation and are friendly to different polymer materials. They progressively attack buildup scaling by solubilizing it in an aqueous medium and breaking down the carbonate ion. Its use in the oil industry is as scale inhibitor, inorganic scale inhibitor, or scale formation inhibitor (when applied in solution).

Abstract: This invention refers to the manufacture and use of a petroleum asphaltene handler additive compound, which when applied in heavy oil, it makes asphaltenes to remain in suspension or dissolve, producing a viscosity reduction effect, this way avoiding formation of asphaltenic conglomerates precipitation in oil wells, storage tanks, as well as keeping pipelines from being obstructed. The components of this new additive compound achieve such a molecular coupling that the final liquid may be miscible in all types of oil. • Patent number: 7506688
Abstract: The present invention includes a method and system for detecting and locating a breach of a pipe in nested multi-pipe petroleum wells through the use and measurement of pressure valves and pressure sensors. The system “locates” breaches in the sense that it determines in which pipe or pipes, if any, in a nested multi-pipe production well the breach exists. The method comprises the steps of, first, connecting at least two of the well pipes of a nested multi-pipe production well to a collection reservoir to allow fluid communication from the well into the reservoir; second, sealing the well pipes to maintain the pressure therein; third, measuring a pressure parameter within each of said at least two well pipes until said pressure parameter indicates a stabilization of pressure therein; fourth, altering the pressure within one of the well pipes; fifth, measuring a pressure parameter within the other well pipes; and sixth, stabilizing the pressure in the well pipe within which the pressure was previously altered.

  • Patent number: 7413012
Abstract: A method and system for containing escaping hydrocarbon fluid from a well pipe of a production well. Suppression of the hydrocarbon fluid to a level below the breach location using a control fluid allows the breach to be repaired through the installation of a containment sleeve at the location of the breach. After collecting the escaping hydrocarbon fluids with a containment sleeve, the hydrocarbon fluid is routed to a collection reservoir from which it may be easily recovered without causing environmental damage. This process occurs with minimal downtime of the production well with the added environmental benefit of remediation of earth contaminated by the hydrocarbon breach.
