  • Publication number: 20050040606
Abstract: A segmented plate adapted for assembly within a confined area or volume, and a method of assembly of the segmented plate. The plate, as assembled, has an exterior perimeter that includes exterior edge-boundaries of a plurality of generally rigid plate-sections, each of the plate-sections are sized smaller than the access to permit passage therethrough. Extending at least partially along adjacent boundaries of plate-sections that have been adjacently arranged, is a self-lock seam, or interposed therebetween is a flexible barrier. The self-lock seam may have a variety of configurations including interlocking U-shaped edges. An aperture or opening having an inner perimeter may be included so that the segmented plate may be assembled around an additional piece, sub-assembly or component. The inner perimeter of the aperture/opening may be of a variety of shapes and comprised of one or more inward-boundary of the plate-sections.

  • Patent number: 6467065
Abstract: A master/slave control system and method of communicating messages between a master controller and slave devices, especially for use in a vehicle. The system includes a data communication bus, a plurality of slave devices coupled to the data communication bus which are addressable and capable of reading messages broadcast on the data communication bus and broadcasting reply messages to the data communication bus, and a master controller coupled to the data communication bus for broadcasting command messages. The command messages include an address for addressing at least one of the plurality of slave devices and a direction indicator parity bit for identifying the command message. The addressed slave device produces a reply message which includes a reply direction indicating parity bit for identifying the reply message.

  • Patent number: 6420797
Abstract: An electrical/electronic system architecture for a vehicle includes a plurality of regions partitioning the vehicle, with each region having a regional electrical/electronic controller (REEC) and at least one local network partitioning each region, with each local network having an electrical/electronic device. The electrical/electronic system architecture includes a global power distribution network that distributes power from a power source to the REEC within each region and a regional power distribution system that distributes the power from the REEC to the local network. The electrical/electronic system architecture also includes a global communication network that provides serial data communication between the REECs in the regions and a regional communication network communicating with the global communication network, such that the regional communication network provides data communication between the REEC and the local network within the region.

  • Patent number: 6266225
Abstract: A method of programming one or more relay based electrical devices comprises the steps of selecting an electrical device to program, switching the relay from a first state to a second state, and applying a time varying signal to the relay associated with the selected device. The method also includes the steps of counting signal transitions occurring during the switching of the relay, and comparing the counted signal transitions to a predetermined value. The method further includes the step of programming the device based on the comparison step. Accordingly, the programming methodology advantageously enables programming of the device by employing the switching time period of the relay which allows for elimination of a separate dedicated programming terminal.

  • Patent number: 6256557
Abstract: A serial data communication system and protocol for communicating data on a serial data bus in a vehicle. The serial data communication system includes a serial data bus connected to a plurality of electronic devices in a vehicle. Each of the electronic devices includes an encoder for encoding bits of information and a decoder for receiving data and decoding the received serial data. The present invention provides for a communication protocol for communicating data on the serial data bus including the steps of providing serial data to be transmitted onto the serial data bus in the vehicle. The serial data is encoded with a pulse width varying as a function of a time, and the time-based variable pulse width is assigned to groupings of at least two data bits to code each of the data bit groupings. A series of coded data bit groupings are transmitted onto the serial data bus in the vehicle, and the electronic devices may receive and decode the encoded data signals to decipher the data.

  • Patent number: 5783992
Abstract: A battery powered sensor in a tire has a microprocessor and a transmitter circuit permanently connected to a battery and a pressure switch or pressure sensor coupled to the microprocessor. The microprocessor has a sleep state and wakes up every few minutes to execute an algorithm which determines on a time basis whether to read the pressure state and transmit a report of significant changes, and determines on a randomly timed basis whether to transmit a status report. A factory test state permits only one signal transmission when the tire is inflated and inhibits other signals for a period to allow testing of many tires without interference from one another.

  • Patent number: 5612671
Abstract: A low tire pressure warning system has a pressure sender and a radio transmitter in each tire, and a vehicle mounted receiver includes a microprocessor controller programmed to automatically learn the IDs of the tire senders. An ID message and pressure report is transmitted from each sender and recorded in memory as main senders presumed to be those on the vehicle wheels. Subsequent new IDs are accepted as reserve senders. By monitoring sender activity the main senders are determined to be healthy or damaged and are replaced when not functioning by new sender IDs which are functioning.

  • Patent number: 5463374
Abstract: Vehicle tires each contain a sender including a microprocessor, a radio transmitter, a pressure detector and a magnetic switch for sending a radio signals indicating sender ID, pressure data and change of switch state. An on-board receiver unit having a microprocessor evaluates the transmitted data and displays pressure condition information. A portable magnet is placed near each tire, in turn, to operate the magnetic switches, resulting in a sequential transmission of sender ID codes which allows the receiver unit to learn the tire position of each sender. An inertia switch in the tire triggers a radio transmission and the receiver unit considers the absence of a transmission when expected as a failure and displays a service needed message. A remote portable sender transmits signals for door unlocking or locking, trunk opening and interior light control. The receiver unit responds to the signals and issues commands to appropriate actuators.
