  • Patent number: 8873515
Abstract: Dynamically control of receive diversity switching in a user equipment (UE) is disclosed. By dynamically controlling the switching between enabling and disabling the receive diversity, power consumption in UEs, such as smart phones and other mobile devices may be reduced. Control is based, at least in part, on measurements for data activity performed by the UE. When the UE finds measurements that would suggest data activity, the UE will switch to enable a receive diversity state when conditions are available for the switch. Similarly, when the UE finds measurements that would suggest data inactivity, the UE will switch to disable the receive diversity state when conditions are available for the switch.

  • Patent number: 8645732
Abstract: User experiences on wireless devices are affected by communication, computation, and user interface capabilities. Another key performance indicator of a wireless device is its battery life. A method, algorithm and apparatus for improving the communication, computation and user interface capabilities of a mobile device is disclosed, which requires the expenditure of less energy and increases battery life. The trade-off between battery life and user experience related to the communication capability is managed by a protocol stack power optimization algorithm that optimally allocates energy resources. The power management algorithm inputs and combines measurements made at various layers of the protocol stack to selectively control a set of actions impacting energy usage. The algorithm maps from a set of measurements to a set of actions that provides the best trade-off between user experience and energy consumption.

  • Publication number: 20140006908
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for communication within a wireless terminal. The method can be implemented using dedicated logic and managed and controlled by state machines and/or sequencers. Data received or provided in a memory of a first integrated circuit of a terminal is encoded and transmitted in a data packet to a second integrated circuit. A header identifying the data type and providing a destination is included in the data packet. The destination may be identified as a memory address memory of the second integrated circuit that is mapped to a corresponding memory address of the first integrated circuit at which the data is received. In an aspect, the apparatus receives a header, detects an error in the received header, determines a failure to identify a packet boundary when the error is detected, and performs a search operation to identify the packet boundary.
