  • Patent number: 7441838
Abstract: A back support mechanism for a vehicle seat is provided with a track mounted to a seat back of the vehicle seat. A carriage is mounted to the track for linear translation along the track between a first position and an actuated position. A support member is connected to the carriage for supporting a back portion of an occupant of the vehicle seat. A biasing member cooperates with the carriage to urge the carriage to the first position. If the occupant back portion imparts a load to the support member exceeding a predetermined force, the support member and the carriage translate along the track over a range of translation. The range of translation is sized to accommodate a corresponding translation of a head of the occupant to a head restraint of the vehicle seat.

  • Publication number: 20080185894
Abstract: Various head restraints are disclosed, such as one embodiment with a central head restraint portion extending from a vehicle seat back for supporting a head of an occupant. A lateral head restraint portion is oriented at a lateral side of the central head restraint portion for also supporting the head of the occupant. An actuator cooperates with the lateral head restraint portion for moving the lateral head restraint portion out of a lateral line of sight of the occupant in response to an input from the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 7073865
Abstract: A tuned vibration absorbing system (12) for a seat system (10) includes a flexible extension member (32) that is coupled to the seat system (10). A suspended element (34) is coupled to the flexible extension member (32). The flexible extension member (32) and the suspended element (34) are configured to absorb vibration within the seat system (10). A method of designing and manufacturing a seat system (10) includes designing the tuned vibration absorbing system (12) with the flexible extension member (32) and the suspended element (34) to absorb vibration within the seat system (10), which is then manufactured and coupled to the seat system (10).
