  • Patent number: 8162541
Abstract: A two-terminal temperature sensor connects a first end of thermistor or other thermometer device to a first electrical terminal via an inner compression coil. A second electrical terminal is connected to a second end of the thermistor via an outer compression coil and a formed conductor. The inner compression coil and thermistor are positioned within the formed conductor. The inner compression coil and thermistor are prevented from contact with the formed conductor by an inner insulating tube. The first and second electrical contacts are mounted in a molded terminal assembly that insulates the electrical contacts from one another. The entire assembly is housed within a housing that is electrically isolated from the formed conductor and outer compression coil via an outer insulating tube and an insulating disk.

  • Patent number: 7038864
Abstract: The present invention concerns the structure of and methods of constructing indicating instruments with slim profiles. The indicating instrument comprises a meter movement and a circuit board. The main body of the meter movement is situated in an aperture in the circuit board. With this placement, the front end of the body of the meter movement extends a distance in front of the circuit board and the back end of the meter movement body extends a distance behind the circuit board. Through appropriate selection and arrangement of any components on the circuit board, the circuit board can be constructed such that none of its components extend beyond the distance that the meter movement extends on either side of the circuit board. In this manner the space needed for the meter movement and the circuit board and its components collapses into the same area. A light plate may be added to the circuit board and meter movement. The light plate provides a structural framework for the indicating instrument.

  • Patent number: 6190049
Abstract: The present invention is a novel fluid thrust bearing system and method for assembling the same. When used in an indicating instrument, the fluid thrust bearing of the present invention reduces the number of necessary parts and simplifies assembly when compared to the prior art. A rotatable element is disposed in a close-fitting cavity so as to define a small gap between the element and the cavity walls, and a fluid is disposed in that gap to the substantial exclusion of air. The fluid damps the rotational movement of the rotatable element. In addition, adhesive forces among the fluid, rotatable element, and cavity walls and cohesive forces within the fluid help maintain the rotatable element in the cavity.

  • Patent number: 6184674
Abstract: Moving magnet indicating instruments in which a damping fluid migration barrier projects from the inside of one wall of the bobbin coil and another damping fluid migration barrier projects from the face of the rotor which confronts that wall. Certain fluids have a tendency to migrate, or “creep,” over surfaces they contact. The fluid migration barriers of the present invention prevent unwanted migration of fluid out of a cavity by providing a sharp peak over which the fluid cannot creep.

  • Patent number: 5608386
Abstract: A lighted switch set gauge includes Hall effect devices using a circuit activating switch attached to a lower extension of indicating and switch set pointers. The switch set pointer is externally adjustable. An overriding slip gear with automatic spring-back is incorporated in the switch set arm prevent damage to the set pointer at the extreme ends of its range of movement. The indicating pointer can be calibrated without removing a hub attached to the shaft of the gauge meter movement.

  • Patent number: 5553480
Abstract: The indicating pointer of a gauge is rotatably and frictionally connected to a hub which is attached to the shaft from a meter movement for calibration of the pointer relative to the graduation indicia of the gauge, without removal and replacement of the pointer or hub from the shaft. The hub may include a gap within which the pointer is nestable and has limited movement.
