  • Patent number: 8021759
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a heat-shrinkable, thermoplastic film or bag which contains at least one homogeneous ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer having a density of at least 0.90 g/cc. Oriented films made in accordance with the present invention exhibit improved optics and improved impact resistance. A homogeneous ethylene alpha-olefin may be present in a monolayer film either alone or in a blend or may be included in one or more layers of a multilayer film in accordance with the present invention.

  • Patent number: 7935401
Abstract: A shrink film comprises a skin layer and a base layer. The skin layer may comprise polystyrene or modified polyester. The base layer may comprise alpha-olefin/cyclic-olefin copolymer or alpha-olefin/vinyl aromatic copolymer. The film has a free shrink at 100° C. of at least about 10%. The film is useful for shrink sleeve applications.

  • Patent number: 6514583
Abstract: A heat-shrinkable film containing a homogeneous ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer has a high impact strength and a high free shrink. The film can be a monolayer film or multilayer film, with the homogeneous ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer present alone or in a blend, and in one or more film layers. The film is especially suited for use in heat-shrinkable bags, which can be used for the packaging of various products, especially meat.

  • Patent number: 6384093
Abstract: A method of enhancing the melt-processibility of crosslinked plastic or recycling crosslinked plastic and the products formed by these methods. The melt processibility of a crosslinked thermoplastic resin may be enhanced by mixing it with a low viscosity polymeric resin having a specified melt flow index relative to the melt flow index of the crosslinked thermoplastic resin, and exposing the mixture to mechanical shearing energy to produce a processed mixture having enhanced melt flow characteristics. The processed mixture may be subsequently mixed with thermoplastic polymer.

  • Patent number: 5306745
Abstract: A composition includes a blend of an additive, such as a fungicide, encapsulated in a first thermoplastic resin and a second thermoplastic resin which has a lower melting point than the first resin. During extrusion of the blend, the second resin melts and surrounds the encapsulated additive before the first resin melts. Thus composition is especially useful in combination with a multilayer film including a core layer made up of the composition, and respective further layers laminated to each side of the core layer. These films are useful in packaging articles such as fruits and vegetables to protect them from fungal infections.

  • Patent number: 5287961
Abstract: A multi-compartment flexible package is provided for filling with products which are to be stored separately from each other. A multi-compartment package made from flexible thermoplastic material heat sealed at the peripheral edges is provided. The compartments are formed by rupturable partition strips heat sealed in place between the sheets of thermoplastic material forming the package. The partition strips are comprised of at least one layer of heat sealable material which is different from the thermoplastic material and which can be ruptured under pressure allowing the products in the compartments to mix.

  • Patent number: 4927708
Abstract: A multi-layered thermoplastic polyolefin film having an improved combination of physical characteristics is disclosed. In particular, the multi-layered film evidences an improved combination of abuse resistance, elongation, and flexibility. Preferred five layer embodiments of the film comprise (1) a core layer of very low density polyethylene; (2) two adjacent intermediate layers of a linear low density polyethylene and (3) two outer layers of an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer or very low density polyethylene.
