Abstract: A method and material for the protection of construction materials against the thermal effects of fire comprising an ablative layer coated on the fire-exposed surface with an intumescent paint.

Abstract: An ablative-type protective material is provided comprising:(a) a polymeric compound comprising a plurality of at least a first repeat unit having the form ##STR1## wherein the first repeat unit is present in an amount ranging from about 70 to about 100 mole percent, inclusive and(b) an aluminum sulfate hydrate of the general formulaAl.sub.2 (SO.sub.4).sub.3.nH.sub.2 Owherein n is an integer from 14 through 18, inclusive and wherein the aluminum sulfate hydrate is present in an amount greater than about 50% by weight of the ablative-type protective material.The resulting composition exhibits an improved resistance to oxidative degeneration as well as improved heat and flame protection times.

Abstract: A fire-protective coating to be used with ordinary paints, or with fire-retardant paints, as a primer, as a filler or as both. The coating contains hydrated salt-forming compositions which produce, upon drying, crystallized water. For use as a primer, the coating contains a water solution of Al.sub.2 (SO.sub.4).sub.3 or other alums. For use as a filler, Al(OH).sub.3 is employed.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a fire and heat protection material of ablative type. According to the invention an organic binder is mixed with a filler consisting of hydrated aluminum sulfate of the general formula Al.sub.2 (SO.sub.4).sub.3 .n H.sub.2 O (wherein n=14-18) being present in amounts of more than 65% by wt of the mixture.The fire and heat protection material can be produced in the form of hard sheets, tapes, films, putties or paints, the time of heat protection being even more than 90 minutes.The material can be used for coating fuel tanks and particularly for protection of stationary stores of explosives and ammunition.
