  • Patent number: 6338491
Abstract: An improved rotary shaft seal assembly is disclosed herein. The seal assembly is disclosed in combination with an example of transmission components with which it may be used. The assembly provides a rotary seal for fluid flow between a stationary cylinder and a shaft which rotates within the cylinder. The shaft includes a porting groove and seal grooves on each side of the porting groove. The seal grooves each include a cast iron and a polymeric (such as Teflon®) seal which form seals between the shaft and cylinder on both sides of the porting groove.

  • Patent number: 5573471
Abstract: A transmission for an off-highway implement having a plurality of selectively operable gear meshes arranged between input and output shafts of the transmission. A two-speed planetary section is coupled between the output shaft and the transmission output drive shaft. The planetary section of the transmission includes a sun gear that rotates with the output shaft, a planetary carrier that rotates with the transmission output drive shaft and has a series of planetary gears arranged in intermeshing relationship between a rotatable ring gear and the sun gear. A pair of clutch assemblies selectively condition the planetary section of the transmission and thereby influence the turning ratio between the input shaft and the transmission output drive shaft. To rotatably turn the transmission output drive shaft in a third speed ratio condition relative to the turning speed of the output shaft, a selectively operated drive system is associated with the planetary section of the transmission.

  • Patent number: 5551548
Abstract: A clutch assembly for selectively transferring rotary power between axially aligned drive and driven members arranged about a transmission shaft of off-highway equipment such as a tractor or the like. The clutch assembly includes an actuator assembly arranged in operable combination with a clutch pack of interleaved annular clutch plates. The actuator assembly includes a clutch piston arranged in operable combination with and establishing an expandable fluid receiving pocket with the drive member. The clutch assembly further includes an annular ring disposed in sealing engagement with and between the clutch piston and the drive member. As long as the clutch piston is in a released position, the annular ring operably divides the piston cavity into inner and outer annular cavities disposed at different radial distances from the axis of the shaft.
