  • Patent number: 5203782
Abstract: A method is provided wherein a suspension containing ferromagnetic particles is introduced into a body, and the particles are caused to move towards a tumor and are retained there by a magnetic field. The area of the tumor is exposed to an electromagnetic field to carry out hyperpyrexia of the tumor to a temperature sufficient to kill cancer cells. The contents of the tumor are removed. The condition of a patient's body is monitored during the treatment by determining activity of neutrophils and macrophages. An apparatus is also provided for carrying out the method and comprises an electromagnetic radiation source with emitters, temperature pickups, and a temperature setter connected to inputs of a comparator, a temperature control unit for controlling hyperpyrexia temperature connected to an output of the comparator and forming a signal fed to a control input of the source of radiation.

  • Patent number: 4629107
Abstract: A ligating instrument comprising an anvil body and a staple driving body with a longitudinal groove which accommodates a staple magazine with staple pushers and a wedge. The latter is mounted on a carriage arranged in guides provided on the lateral walls of the staple driving body. The instrument incorporates a device for adjusting the ligation spacing, which comprises a stationary axle mounted on the carriage transversely to the latter. The tapered portion of the wedge is fitted on this axle. The ligation spacing adjustment means also includes a movable support articulated to the wedge in its rear portion so that the movable support and the wedge can be set in motion at a perpendicular to the guides of the carriage.

  • Patent number: 4596351
Abstract: A surgical stapling apparatus, comprising a thrust case incorporating a lengthwise groove. Said groove accommodates a magazine containing staples, and drivers of the staples, and a wedge interacting with said pushers and seating on a carriage supported in guides running along said staple case. A surface of said wedge interacting with said drivers is curvilinear, with lines tangent to the generatrix thereof and a travelling direction of said wedge located so as to constitute an angle varying gradually from 45 deg to zero between a front part of said wedge and the back part thereof in the direction of the wedge travel during stapling procedure.

  • Patent number: 4355751
Abstract: Described herein is a surgical instrument for suturing cutaneous tissue, especially scar tissue, when stitching on skin grafts, said instrument comprising a supporting body and a staple body which are hinged to each other so as to be capable of being brought together or apart. A staple magazine is provided on the staple body of the instrument, and an ejector is provided for driving the staples from the staple body into the stitching unit. The stitching unit incorporates a single needle-shaped die with an L-shaped needle, said needle being mounted on the supporting body, and a slot formed at the end of the staple body through which the die needle passes when suturing. The needle-shaped die has two recesses, one of which communicates with the magazine through the groove provided in the supporting body, while the other of which, upon bringing the instrument bodies together, is located against a special groove in the staple body, communicating with the staple magazine and with the base of the slot.

  • Patent number: 4122989
Abstract: A surgical instrument for suturing tissue with metal staples includes an anvil unit which has two elongated jaws aligned with each other and having inner surfaces facing each other and formed with longitudinal guiding grooves for a staple. The front ends of the jaws carry anvils for bending the tips of the staples, said anvils being shaped as curved needles, having tips facing each other and formed with longitudinal grooves which are extensions of said guiding grooves of the jaws. The jaws can be releasably connected to each other in a position in which the longitudinal grooves of the jaws are approximately parallel to each other. A detachable staple-driving unit has a frame mounted on the jaws, provided with grooves for a staple and a staple driving member with a lever for operating the same.
