  • Publication number: 20030115954
Abstract: The adjustable to a user's upper extremity the exoskeleton structure provides testing and exercising of the whole upper extremity in a realistic manner without infringement of a locomotor act and with selective biomechanical information and exercise loading in each anatomical motion direction of every joint simultaneously. The exoskeleton structure comprises jointed means for connection with a user's shouldergirdle, upperarm, forearm, and hand. Those means include measuring-loading blocks to measure muscle forces and joint angles and to apply a dosed exercise load. All measuring-loading blocks in the exoskeleton structure are identical. The exoskeleton structure is able to provide a realistic and comprehensive information about both a complex locomotor act and a selective mono-planar motion for both isometric and isotonic muscular contractions.

  • Patent number: 6436006
Abstract: Disclosed is a high precision resistance device that allows a user to set and hold exact load amount and pattern of loading in exercise machine. The one embodiment of the device includes a hydraulic cylinder having a piston and two valves, two driving members, a driven member, a cam, and a connecting rod. Each valve can change flow section area in the hydraulic cylinder. One valve manually sets an original level of an exercise load. Second valve is adjusted by the cam to maintain a predetermined pattern of the exercise load. The cam can be easily change for another one having different shape and providing accordingly the predetermined pattern of the exercise load, that is pattern of loading applied to a user's muscular system in operation. Driving members are adapted to receive a plurality of exercise accessories. The resistance device can be installed in actually any conventional fitness machine to transform it into precise equipment for medical research, therapy, and rehabilitation.

  • Patent number: 5529552
Abstract: Disclosed is an exercise machine that allows a person to perform a wide variety of exercises including cardiovascular and strength training. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a platform which may be used for a variety of applications. The platform comprises an exercise and/or support surface formed by a plurality of modular members which may be interconnected to decrease or infinitely increase the size of the exercise and/or support surface. The exercise machine further comprises first and second utility arms extending from opposite sides of the support platform. Each of the utility arms comprises an upper segment pivotally connected to a lower segment. The upper segment may comprise one or more pulleys and corresponding cables which may be pulled by the person against a selectable resistance provided by a resistance system embedded within the support platform.
