  • Publication number: 20150368599
Abstract: This disclosure provides micro-feature devices and methods for fabricating micro-feature devices. A micro-feature device can include a substantially rigid transparent substrate. The device can include a plurality of macrowells defined in the transparent substrate. Each macrowell can have a width in the range of about one millimeter to about 35 millimeters and a depth in the range of about two millimeters to about 12 millimeters. Each macrowell can include a respective plurality of microwells defined in a respective lower surface of the macrowell. Each microwell can have a width in the range of about 50 microns to about 500 microns and a depth in the range of about 50 microns to about 500 microns.

  • Publication number: 20140273276
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for a microfluidic calorimeter apparatus. A microfluidic calorimeter system includes a calorimetry apparatus and a processor in connection with the apparatus. The apparatus includes a microfluidic laminar flow channel connected to two inlets for flowing fluid into the laminar flow channel. Below the laminar flow channel is a plurality of microscale temperature sensors at known positions in the channel. The processor is in connection with the discrete temperature sensors and determines a calorimetry measurement based on local temperatures derived from data output by the microscale temperature sensors and the respective positions of the sensors in the channel.

  • Publication number: 20130331728
Abstract: Systems and methods of determining a core temperature of an internal organ in a body are provided. A thermal mass of known thermal resistance can be located between a body-contacting substrate and an external substrate. The body-contacting portion of the substrate can be placed over the organ whose temperature is to be measured. Temperature sensors can measure a temperature difference across the thermal mass and an absolute temperature at the external portion of the substrate. An electronic processor can receive the temperature measurements and can compute the core temperature of the organ based on the temperature measurements and the thermal resistances of the thermal mass and the tissue surrounding the organ.
