  • Patent number: 6464161
Abstract: Process for severing a traveling material web, at reel spool changeover, in a winding device. The process comprises moving a severing device into the web travel path between a winding roll and an empty reel spool on one side and a reel spool carrying a reel formed on the other side of the device and severing the material web across the width of the material web at several places, sequentially by the severing device, at separation points which lie along a line that runs at an angle to a travel direction of the web. A winding device for a material web, e.g., a paper web, comprises a winding roll, an empty reel spool on one side of the winding roll and a reel spool carrying a reel on another side of the winding roll. A severing device for severing the material web, at reel spool changeover, is moved into the web travel path between the winding roll and the empty reel spool.

  • Patent number: 6427938
Abstract: Process and apparatus for cutting a running material web in which the material web is wound onto several winding cores in succession, such that winding of the material web onto a new winding core begins after a predetermined diameter has been attained in a wound roll formed on an old winding core. The process includes moving the new winding core between a winding roll and the wound roll, such that the material web is fed onto the wound roll from the winding roll. The process further includes forming a nip between the new winding core and the winding roll, positioning at least one cutting device one of in a region between the wound roll and the nip and in a region upstream of the winding roll relative to a web run direction, and moving the at least one cutting device relative to the material web in a plane substantially parallel to the material web. In this manner, the running material web can be completely cut.

  • Patent number: 6328248
Abstract: A winding machine and method for winding a material web onto a reel-spool in which the material web is transported over a support roll and a winding nip is formed between the support roll and the reel-spool. For changing of reel-spool, the material web is weakened before the support roll in the web travel direction. The material web is then separated at the weakened point. The winding machine includes a rotatable perforating unit, the perforating unit provided with a plurality of one of cutting elements and perforating elements and a counter-holder is arranged on an opposite side of the web from the perforating unit, the perforating unit and the counter-holder are movable relative to one another to weaken the web.

  • Patent number: 6129305
Abstract: Winding machine for continuous winding of a material web, in particular a paper or cardboard web, onto a reel into a winding roll, having a movable pressing drum, which forms a winding gap with the winding roll, having at least one primary transport device by means of which the reel can be moved along a first guide track, and at least one secondary transport device that guides the reel along a second guide track. To prepare for a reel change, the new reel can be shifted by the primary transport device into a reel-changing position in which a new winding gap is formed between the new reel and the pressing drum. In the reel-changing position, the material web is guided over a circumference region of the new reel.

  • Patent number: 5938144
Abstract: A winding machine for a material web, particularly of paper or cardboard, the web being rolled onto a reel core for forming at least one round reel. At least two supporting devices support the wound reel. The first supporting device is formed by a first supporting roller. The second supporting device comprises at least a second supporting roller and comprises at least one lowering device that lowers to let the wound reel move off the first roller. The lowering device can be pivoted about an axis that runs essentially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the first roller. The second supporting device is moveable to a first position where it supports the winding on process or a second position where it provides support over a circumferential area of the reel during the remainder of the winding. The second supporting device is moveable, e.g., by a piston-cylinder unit, to provide support as the wound reel increases in diameter.

  • Patent number: 5881622
Abstract: A device for producing a track of perforations transverse to a paper web including a support for advancing the web past the device, a rotatable shaft at one side of the web, a perforating comb supported on and rotatable on the shaft when the shaft is rotated. A web support body on the opposite side of the web from the shaft contains a groove in the underside of the web support body into which the perforation comb teeth extend when the perforation comb rotates past the web. The web contacts the underside of the web support body and also the ends of transverse ribs which divide the groove in the web support body into individual sections.

  • Patent number: 5848760
Abstract: A carrier roll winding machine for winding up a web, such as a paper web. Two carrier rolls form a winding bed for a reel and the reel is fed with a web wrapped around the bottom of and then passing between the two rolls and to the reel. A blow box beneath the space between the carrier rolls having a compressed air connection. The blow box has a respective wall at each of the carrier rolls and a sealing element at each of the walls sealing to the respective carrier roll. The region, of at least one wall or of both walls, supporting the sealing element are movable from the sealing position to a non-sealing position either by translatory movement or pivoting movement with reference to the remaining stationary wall parts of the blow box. A web severing device is movable to sever the web when a wall portion and sealing element are moved away from the carrier roll permitting the severing device to pass to the web.

  • Patent number: 5845866
Abstract: A method for change a reel in a paper winding machine which has at least one carrier roll. The paper web (3) is fed to the carrier roll (1). It wraps around a portion of the circumference of the carrier roll and is wound onto a reel (3.1). Shortly before reaching a desired reel diameter, the machine speed (V) is reduced to a creep speed (k). Subsequently, a weakened line (8) running transversely across is formed on the web and, upstream of the weakened line, an adhesive is applied, while keeping the relative speeds of the web and the covering surface of the carrier roll (1) equal or close to one another. After the web is adhered to the reel (3.1), the reel is expelled or ejected, as a result of which the web is severed at the weakened line (8).

  • Patent number: 5839689
Abstract: An air box for use beneath a pair of carrier rolls or a roll winder for a web. The air box disposed beneath the carrier rolls has first and second side walls generally sealed respectively at each of the carrier rolls. The paper web passes beneath one of the carrier rolls and up between the rolls. The web may tear and the paper web then drops into the air box. A connecting wall in the air box between the side walls thereof and above the base receives the paper falling thereon rather than the paper falling into the air box. The connecting wall may be inclined to direct the falling paper toward a side wall where an opening is provided enabling the moving of the paper. The connecting wall may be perforated and the air flow into the air box is beneath the perforated wall so that the air flow through the wall cooperates in moving the falling paper along the connecting wall. As a result, the waste paper can be removed quickly and easily.

  • Patent number: 4444360
Abstract: A web severing apparatus is described which is operative between support rollers and a web wind-up roll employed in a web winding machine. The web severing apparatus consists of a retractable beam which is guided on axial ends of the support rollers. The beam has at its upper end a pivotably arranged mounting on which a web tear-off blade is screwed. The mounting further supports at a small distance away from the web tearing blade, a web holding element having a web contacting surface to clamp the web firmly on the roller when the web tear-off blade is so positioned relative to the web contacting surface that a narrow gap is formed between the web tearing edge of the blade and the web. When the web wind-up roll is then pushed out over one of the support rollers, the web is pulled against the web tear-off blade and is severed. With such web severing apparatus, the surface of the support roller opposite the blade and the web tear blade are protected from damage.
