  • Patent number: 4654768
Abstract: A luminaire comprising separable means arrangement for hingedly mounting a refractor on the rim of the reflector of the luminaire is disclosed. The separable means is comprised of a hinge clip having two hooked extensions at one side which engage raised slotted sections located at each end of a split clampband. The hooked extensions of the hinge clip are removably retained in the raised slotted sections and cannot be easily backed out. The hinge clip is self retained to the clampband by means of an interaction between a resilient gasket and the clampband. The gasket is positioned inside of the clampband and exerts an outward force on the clampband and provides effective sealing between the clampband and the refractor and between the clampband and the reflector flange. The other side of the hinge clip has means for hingedly mounting the refractor to the reflector.

  • Patent number: 4579226
Abstract: A carton for packaging a clamshell type luminaire comprising a paperboard box of a height accommodating the luminaire lengthwise and having a square cross-section in which the luminaire with refractor dismounted is accommodated diagonally. A diagonal locking panel filler has a face portion pressing against the rear portion of the humped bottom side of the luminaire to wedge its top side into a corner of the carton. The face portion has attached wings or side panels erected to form a right angle corner support conforming to the interior of the carton and transmitting to the carton walls the load created by the weight of the luminaire.

  • Patent number: 4516196
Abstract: In a luminaire comprising an upper housing assembly for a light source and a lower plastic refractor closing the underside and having a rim adapted to mate with that of the assembly, C-shaped latches are disposed around the periphery of said refractor for clamping the rims together when pivoted into position astride both rims. Circumferentially extending bail wires attach the latches to the underside of the refractor rim and allow them to be pivoted into clamping position while preventing them from dropping off when disengaged. The bail wires pass through holes molded in the plastic of the refractor rim.
