  • Patent number: 4440290
Abstract: A split receiver mounted on an indexible rotary turret of a paper receptacle forming machine has a cylindrical bore which opens radially outwardly of the turret. One part of the receiver, mounted in fixed position on the turret, defines the inner end portion of the bore. Another part, supported for movement into and out of mating engagement with the one part cooperates with the outer end portion of the one part to define the outer end portion of the bore. A camming mechanism operates in response to indexing movement of the turret to move the one part out of mating engagement with the other part and from a receptacle holding position to a receptacle releasing position.

  • Patent number: 4357138
Abstract: Apparatus for crimping a noncircular edge portion of a cup-shaped container or for rolling a bead on a noncircular edge portion of such a container includes a plurality of forming rollers supported on a rotary tool carrier for rotation with the tool carrier and relative to it. A roller follower associated with each forming roller and engaged within a stationary cam track causes each forming roller to travel in a noncircular path about the axis of the tool carrier as the tool carrier rotates about its axis. The tool carrier moves in an axial direction generally toward and away from a mandrel or receiver supporting the container to move the forming rollers into and out of forming engagement with a noncircular edge of the container.

  • Patent number: 4232590
Abstract: A cup making machine having a turret for indexing a cup forming mandrel to successive forming stations and a hot melt applicator mechanism including a nozzle for applying a bead of hot melt material to a partially formed cup blank carried by the mandrel as it is indexed into position at one forming station. The nozzle is supported for compound movement relative to the mandrel in response to indexing movement of the turret so that a relatively straight bead of hot melt material is applied to a portion of the cup blank which travels in an arcuate indexing path.
