  • Patent number: 4154958
Abstract: A new class of thermally labile compounds having rust inhibiting properties is disclosed and claimed. The compounds (or formulations thereof) are especially useful as rust inhibitors when used either alone in distillate hydrocarbon fuels or in multi-purpose additive mixtures for distillate hydrocarbon fuels having a major proportion of hydrocarbon fuel distilling within the gasoline distillation range or other oil compositions to provide rust protection in fuel distribution systems which operate at ambient temperature (e.g., pipelines, tank trucks, and storage tanks). Preferred embodiments of the invention are alkylammonium carboxylate salt-ethoxylated alkyl phenol esters of a dicarboxylic acid.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 22, 1976
Date of Patent: May 15, 1979
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company
Inventors: Joseph M. Bollinger, Richard H. Hanauer, Warren H. Machleder

    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 5, 1977
Date of Patent: April 3, 1979
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company

  • Patent number: 4134846
Abstract: A mixture of (1) a substituted phenol/epichlorohydrin/amine adduct and (2) a polyalkylene phenol as a multipurpose, low concentration additive for hydrocarbon fuels, lubricating oils and mixtures thereof.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 5, 1977

  • Patent number: 4072474
Abstract: Motor fuel compositions having detergent properties are disclosed and claimed which are particularly useful in spark-ignition, internal combustion engines. The fuel compositions of the present invention contain certain additives which either substantially eliminate, mitigate against, or maintain at a low level, deposits which would otherwise form in the carburetor, in the intake valves and ports, and in the combustion chamber, including the spark plugs. Such carburetor and intake system (induction system) deposits are to be avoided since they tend to restrict the flow of air through the carburetor especially at idle and at low speeds and/or cause improper valve closing and sluggish valve action. These conditions produce rough engine idling, stalling, and can also result in excessive hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide exhaust emissions. Combustion chamber deposits are to be avoided since they cause an increase in octane requirement, emissions and cause preignition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 30, 1975
Date of Patent: February 7, 1978
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company
Inventors: Robert R. Kuhn, Warren H. Machleder
  • Patent number: 4048081
Abstract: A new multipurpose carburetor detergent for addition to gasoline is disclosed and claimed. The novel multipurpose detergent material shows excellent activity as a carburetor detergent, induction system detergent (% deposit reduction), combustion chamber detergency and, in addition, provides effective rust inhibition when used in automotive gasoline fuels at low concentrations. The new product is a polyisobutene phenol/epichlorohydrin/amine adduct. The novel product may also be described as the reaction product of a polyisobutene phenol with epichlorohydrin followed by amination with ethylene diamine.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: September 13, 1977

  • Patent number: 4040798
Abstract: A new class of compounds having rust inhibiting and/or corrosion protecting properties is disclosed and claimed. The compounds (or mixtures thereof) are especially useful as rust inhibitors and for corrosion protection in hydrocarbon fuel or oil compositions, such as in gasoline, diesel and home heating fuels, industrial oils and lubricating oils, and such fuel and oil compositions incorporating the novel compounds are also disclosed and claimed. In a preferred embodiment the compounds are alkyl ammonium carboxylate salt-ethoxylated alkyl phenol esters of a trimer or dimer acid (or mixture thereof).

    Filed: April 7, 1975
Date of Patent: August 9, 1977
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company
