  • Patent number: 5369477
Abstract: A liquid electrophotography fluid containment and belt tracking device has a rubber or other elastomeric profile fixed to both edges of a photoconducting belt to provide both belt tracking control and fluid edge effects control. The part of the profile that extends from the inside surface of the belt is used as a tracking rail. A mating profile is machined into the belt rollers to provide tracking control. The part of the profile that extends from the outside surface of the belt is used to seal the edge to the squeegee roller to prevent fluid from moving around the end of the squeegee roller.

  • Patent number: 5291360
Abstract: A head suspension assembly for a disk drive has elongated members, in the form of flat strips of stainless steel, which have distal ends welded to the mounting ends of stainless steel load beams with the load beam and the stainless steel strips in alignment. Magnetic heads are mounted in corresponding positions on the distal ends of the load beams. The stainless steel strips are welded together at their distal ends with the load beams aligned with one another and the magnetic heads on the distal ends of the load beams facing in opposite directions. The stainless steel strips are of the same thickness as the reinforcing plates or swage plates which they replace. The load beams are spaced apart by the combined thickness of the stainless steel strips. An arm of an actuator is positioned between and secured to the mounting ends of the stainless steel strips, providing an A-frame type of structure which is light in weight, dimensionally stable and rigid.

  • Patent number: 5239431
Abstract: Resistance to shock forces having components acting parallel to the spindle axis of a disk stack is provided by spacing the surface of a circumferential flange of a disk spacer a distance above the surface of a disk in the disk stack which is sufficient to clear the magnetic head and flexure assembly therebeneath during movement thereof during flight to and from a parked position between the confronting surfaces of the circumferential flange and the disk.

  • Patent number: 5184265
Abstract: In a magnetic disk memory drive, inertia in the magnetic head positioning system is reduced by providing a light weight, integrated, magnetic head suspension assembly fabricated of weldable thin sheet material and shaped to provide the required magnetic head flexibility, mobility and spring loading, while affording structural rigidity and dimensional stability in the disk memory drive environment. Unwanted magnetic head displacements are additionally minimizing by employing materials in the magnetic head suspension assembly, including the actuator, the arm and the load beam or flexure, having the same, or nearly the same, thermal expansion coefficients.

  • Patent number: 4994931
Abstract: An actuator structure in which the arms which support the magnetic heads are of sheet material in back-to-back pairs having ends fitted into and clamped between the confronting faces of pads arranged in columns on an actuator body. The pads in each column are cantilevered from the body on deflectable supports, except for one rigid support substantially centrally positioned in each column. A bolt extending through axially aligned holes in the pads and the arms in each column applies pressure to deflect the pad supports and clamp the arms between the pads.

  • Patent number: 4956735
Abstract: A magnetic circuit structure for use in an actuator, where the actuator has a displaceable assembly and a coil attached to such assembly, is shown to include flux conductors having generally parallel first and second poles defining gaps therebetween and an integrally formed base joining one end of the first and second poles so that the conductor defines a continuous flux path, and magnets attached to each of the first poles in the gaps so that flux from the magnets is directed across the gaps, wherein a portion of the coil passes through said gap, so that when a current is passed through the coil, the assembly moves.

  • Patent number: 4745504
Abstract: A friction driven head positioner system for a disk memory including a positioner arm with a flexural pivot end and a driven end on which read/write heads are mounted. The flexural pivot end is coupled to a support post of the chassis of the disk memory and a spring urges the driven end of the positioner arm into a shaft of a positioner motor to thereby drive the heads across tracks of the disk.
