  • Patent number: 5067298
Abstract: A method to construct a plaza deck/parking structure in which a waterproof membrane is applied to the base deck. Panels of foam insulation material are provided on top of the membrane and on the upper side of these panels there is a channeled/ribbed structure. Affixed to the top of the ribs in each panel is a porous fabric which permits moisture and water vapor to penetrate the fabric and collect in the channels. The existence of the fabric layer permits the addition of concrete to the structure by simply pouring wet concrete directly onto the fabric-covered foam panels, instead of having to transport solid, heavy concrete slabs to the top of parking structures. The channeled/ribbed structure of the foam plastic insulation provides for ventilation and moisture removal which leads to better wearability of the insulation material in the plaza deck parking structure.

  • Patent number: 4747247
Abstract: Disclosed is a roof structure containing a fire retardant. The roof structure has a fluted deck with troughs therein and a meltable insulation layer overlying the fluted deck. The fire retardant includes a series of non-flammable absorbent strips or strip segments which can be placed in the troughs of the fluted deck for retarding the flow of molten insulation in the trough during a fire by absorbing the molten insulation material in the trough.

  • Patent number: 4712349
Abstract: An insulated roofing system is provided in which a waterproof membrane is applied to the roof deck. Extruded panels of closed cell polystyrene foam are provided on top of the membrane, thus protecting the membrane from thermal cycling, ultraviolet rays, and physical damage. The foam panels provide excellent insulation and are resistant to water. A waterproof plastic film is bonded to the undersurface of each panel positively to exclude water. The foam panels are cut mechanically or are grooved to provide on the upper surface integral ribs spaced by channels. Concrete panels are laid directly on top of the polystyrene foam and rest gravitationally on the ribs. The ribs provide for ventilation and moisture removal on hot, dry days. Removal of water vapor is enhanced by the increased area exposed to the ambient environment and derived from the cratered surfaces generated by cutting sections out of the foamed plastic panels.

  • Patent number: 4658554
Abstract: An insulated roofing system is provided in which a waterproof membrane is applied to the roof deck. Extruded panels of closed cell polystryrene foam are provided on top of the membrane, thus protecting the membrane from thermal cycling, ultraviolet rays, and physical damage. The foam panels provide excellent insulation and are resistant to water. A waterproof plastic film is bonded to the under surface of each panel positively to exclude water. The foam panels are extruded and are provided on the upper surface with integral ribs spaced by grooves. Concrete panels are laid directly on top of the polystyrene foam and lie gravitationally on the ribs. The ribs provided for ventilation and moisture removal on hot, dry days.

  • Patent number: 4658645
Abstract: A wind velocity measuring apparatus tips over when a predetermined wind velocity is reached or exceeded. The apparatus includes a base adapted to rest on a horizontal supporting surface such as a roof. An upright member extends upwardly from said base and carries at its upper end a wind impeding device in the form of a cylindrical vane or a plurality of radially extending, arcuately spaced vanes. A "telltale" device is sealed within the base to indicate when the apparatus has been tipped over by wind equalling or exceeding the predetermined velocity.
