Abstract: Embodiments are disclosed for implementing database schema modifications. In some embodiments, a list of single-operation transactions are generated based on a set of pending schema object changes including recording object alter transactions and sequence control transactions in a first sequence. Based on the single-operation transactions, the first sequence, and an operation sequence specified by an object modification protocol of a database management system, modifications to the first sequence are determined. The list of single-operation transactions are re-ordered by implementing the determined modifications to the first sequence to generate a re-ordered list of single-operation transactions. Change statements from the single-operation transactions are generated in an execution sequence corresponding to the re-ordered list of single-operation transactions.

Abstract: Embodiments are disclosed for implementing database schema modifications. In some embodiments, pending schema object changes are determined for a first database. An object tree is generated including populating the object tree with object definition nodes for schema objects to be modified by the pending schema object changes. The object definition nodes are modified in accordance with the pending schema object changes. Based on the modified object definition nodes, single-operation transactions are sequentially generated that each correspond to one of the pending schema object changes, wherein at least two of the single-operation transactions correspond to one of the pending schema object changes. A database schema is modified including executing change statements derived from the single-operation transactions.

Abstract: A method for facilitating creation and managing of partitioned table indices of a table object of a first partitioning type includes steps of: automatically looking up a table and its partitioning type definition; retrieving the table index and all indices defined for that table object, and their definitions; presenting to a user at least a portion of the table index in a single set of index alter screens; receiving from the user an alter request in the form of a screen option; performing validity checking on the screen option, based on the index type. If the screen option is not compatible with the index type, the method automatically overrides the screen option with one that is compatible, and issues a diagnostic message. If the screen option is valid for the index type, the user is notified about the changes that will be made and the effect of those changes. Data definition language statements are then generated consistent with the screen options.

Abstract: A method for converting a table object from a first partitioning type to a second partitioning type includes steps or acts of gathering information including a definition of a clustering index of the table object; converting the table object of the first partitioning type into a virtual table object of the second partitioning type by virtually applying the information to a clustering index of the table object such that the virtual table object represents how the table object will appear when it is explicitly converted; and presenting the virtual table object to a user for viewing and manipulating as a table of the second partitioning type before generating an explicit conversion to said second partitioning type.
