Patent number: 9083635Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure generally pertain to systems and methods for policing packet networks. A system in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure includes an enqueue policer positioned within an intermediate node of a packet network prior to at least one egress queue. The enqueue policer utilizes information related to destination end-point capacity limits for a given customer in order to police packets based on such information at a relatively early point in the packet network. Thus, a packet that would have been dropped by an egress node due to capacity limits is dropped by the intermediate node thereby preventing the packet from needlessly consuming bandwidth of the network beyond the intermediate node.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2010Date of Patent: July 14, 2015Assignee: ADTRAN, Inc.Inventors: Jamie S. Kelly, Andrew T. Ruble, Troy Wayne White

Patent number: 8490065Abstract: The present invention provides a computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer usable program code for compiling instructions to manage a cache system. Loop constructs are analyzed to identify data usage characteristics for cache and prefetching conditions in instructions to form identified prefetch conditions. A set of control instructions are inserted into the instructions based on the data usage characteristics and the identified prefetch conditions to form multiple modified instructions. The set of multiple modified instructions are compiled to generate code for execution to form compiled instructions. The set of control instructions in the compiled instructions form a cache management policy to control movement of data in a memory system during execution of the compiled instructions.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 2005Date of Patent: July 16, 2013Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Roch Archambault, Yaoqing Gao, Francis Patrick O'Connell, Robert Brett Tremaine, Michael Edward Wazlowski, Steven Wayne White, Lixin Zhang

Patent number: 8082945Abstract: A top operating telescoping adjustable valve box and valve stem assembly that incorporates a telescoping valve stem actuating system which, when coupled to a service valve, allows for the operation from ground level without the removal of a plug or lid. The system has a large range of vertical adjustability. The upper and lower sections of the assembly are in frictional connection with each other, which allows no transmittal of force to the lower section when any upward force to the upper section is applied, thus reducing damage to the buried valve and pipeline. The assembly provides a tracing block terminal, located on the top base, to allow for the connection of tracing wire from the valve top to the service pipe for service line location. The assembly also incorporates the placement of a tamper proof cap for the prevention of unauthorized operation of valve stem system.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2009Date of Patent: December 27, 2011Assignee: E-Z Innovations, L.L.C.Inventors: Dennis Wayne White, John Leonard Jacobs

Patent number: 8037034Abstract: Some aspects of the invention provide methods, systems, and computer program products for creating a static dictionary in which longer byte-strings are preferred. To that end, in accordance with aspects of the present invention, a new heuristic is defined to replace the aforementioned frequency count metric used to record the number of times a particular node in a data tree is visited. The new heuristic is based on counting the number of times an end-node of a particular byte-string is visited, while not incrementing a count for nodes storing characters in the middle of the byte-string as often as each time such nodes are visited. The result is an occurrence count metric that favors longer byte-strings, by being biased towards not incrementing the respective occurrence count values for nodes storing characters in the middle of a byte-string.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2007Date of Patent: October 11, 2011Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Piotr M.
