  • Publication number: 20240111253
Abstract: A composite enclosure component for an electronic device is disclosed. The composite enclosure component is formed at least in part from a composite material that includes a porous ceramic structure at least partially embedded in a glass-based matrix. The glass-based matrix includes one or more sets of nanoparticles that impart a color to the composite enclosure component.

  • Publication number: 20240098921
Abstract: A structurally colored enclosure component for an electronic device is disclosed. The structurally colored enclosure component may be a cover member for the electronic device and in some cases may display iridescence. A surface region of the enclosure component may include a modified glass-based material and the structural color of the enclosure component may be due at least in part to the surface region.

  • Publication number: 20230421679
Abstract: An electronic device may include a display and an enclosure. The enclosure may include a housing, a front cover coupled to the housing and comprising a front cover member positioned over the display, and a rear cover coupled to the housing and including a rear cover member. The rear cover member may be formed from a glass material including metal nanoparticles configured to impart color to the glass material and having a dielectric constant from 5.5 to 7.5 in a frequency band from 5 GHz to 45 GHz. The rear cover member may include a first portion defining a first thickness and characterized by a first color, and a second portion defining a second thickness, greater than the first thickness, and characterized by a second color, different from the first color.

  • Publication number: 20230056403
Abstract: Components formed from colored glass-based materials are disclosed. A cover member formed from a colored glass-based material may be positioned over one or more device components such as a component of a wireless communication or charging system. The cover member may have optical properties, electrical properties, magnetic properties, and/or mechanical properties compatible with the requirements of the one or more device components. In some cases, different portions of the cover member may be configured to have different optical and/or electrical properties.
