  • Patent number: 10273872
Abstract: A charge air cooler (CAC) includes a first header including a first interior portion, a second header spaced from the first header. The second header includes a second interior portion. At least one conduit extends between the first header and the second header. The at least one conduit includes a first end fluidically connected to the first interior portion, a second end fluidically connected to the second interior portion, and an intermediate portion extending therebetween. A heating system is arranged in a heat exchange relationship with the at least one conduit. The heating system is selectively operable to increase a temperature of fluids passing through the at least one conduit into one of the first and second headers.

  • Patent number: 10247149
Abstract: An engine assembly with an air intake system and a turbocharger device in fluid communication with the air intake system includes an electronic control unit in communication with the air intake system and turbocharger device. A CAC system is in downstream fluid communication with the turbocharger device and in upstream fluid communication with the air intake system and includes at least one flow adjustment mechanism in communication with the electronic control unit and selectively positionable between a first position and one or more second positions to adjust velocity of air from the turbocharger device flowing through the CAC system and to manage condensation buildup in the CAC system and/or to open a bypass duct in order for some or all of the turbo airflow to bypass the CAC system to reduce or eliminate condensation buildup in the CAC system at warm ambient conditions and ice buildup at cold ambient conditions.

  • Publication number: 20170362995
Abstract: A vehicle having an air intake system includes a charge air cooler, an intake duct, an outlet duct, and a bypass duct. The charge air cooler has a charge air inlet that is disposed at a first end of a charge air cooler core and a charge air outlet that is disposed at a second end of the charge air cooler core. The intake duct extends between an outlet of a turbocharger and the charge air inlet. The outlet duct extends between the charge air outlet and a throttle body having a throttle body valve that is operatively connected to an engine intake manifold. The bypass duct has a bypass valve. The bypass duct is connected to the charge air inlet and the charge air outlet. The bypass valve is configured to selectively facilitate bypass flow through the bypass duct.
