  • Patent number: 4694655
Abstract: A controllable helium-II phase separator utilizes the cut-off action of the thermomechanical effect if superfluid helium-II flows through a capillary gap-shaped canal. For controlling the throughput, the gap width of the canal is varied by changing the distance between two opposite canal walls at least in the range between 0 and 15 .mu.m.

  • Patent number: 4300354
Abstract: A low temperature tank is suspended in an outer shell or container by a pality of straps of fiber compound materials. Each strap comprises a plurality of individual strap elements arranged in series. The strap elements are made of different fibers whereby the strap element closest to the tank is made of a fiber material having the lowest heat expansion coefficient as compared to the heat expansion coefficient of the other elements of a strap further away from the tank. Preferably the strap elements are thermally insulated from each other. In that case the strap elements need not necessarily be made of fiber materials having different heat expansion coefficients.

  • Patent number: 4281518
Abstract: A method of separating certain components of a gas mixture in which the gas mixture is cooled and certain components are separated in a liquid or solid state characterized by introducing the gas mixture into a separator tank, adding a cooling agent such as a liquid or cold inert gas so as to cool the gas mixture and separating component in a solid state and subsequently fusing the separated solid into a liquid in a collecting tank. The concentrated gas mixture to be separated is directly removed from its place of use and directly supplied to the separator tank without allowing any further admixture of secondary air. The device for carrying out the method comprises an insulated tank to which air having entrained sulfer dioxide is introduced. The air flow is controlled so that it is oriented in a particular direction and it is passed beyond nozzles for injecting an inert gas such as liquid nitrogen into the interior of the insulated tank.

  • Patent number: 4274064
Abstract: The resonator of a gas dynamic laser, particularly, of a high power gas dynamic laser, is mechanically decoupled from the other components of the laser by a pair of elastic restoring ring membranes and stay bolts. The flow channel of the laser is mechanically connected through the ring membranes to the resonator. A pair of tubular, elastic sleeve membranes seal the flow channel in a vacuum tight manner. The laser beam decoupling elements are secured to bushings extending coaxially through said elastic tubular sleeve membranes. The restoring forces of the ring membranes are large relative to the differential force resulting from said tubular sleeve sealing membranes.

  • Patent number: 4257012
Abstract: The present nozzle assembly for gas-dynamic high efficiency lasers with a oling system comprises a plurality of specially formed nozzle members or so-called lamellae. Each nozzle has its own cooling passages, matching bodies and glide surfaces. A series of nozzle members are placed in thermal contact with each other within a mounting or holding block. A coolant flows through said cooling passages which extend through each nozzle throat region and through matching bodies of the nozzle members so that a uniform temperature prevails across the nozzle assembly whereby the nozzle dimensions are maintained constant especially at the nozzle throat width and whereby leakage flows are eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4231283
Abstract: A pulsating liquid jet gun, comprises, a housing which defines a cylindere having a small diameter portion defining a liquid chamber with an outer end having a discharge nozzle and an inner end which is connected to an intermediate diameter portion of a greater diameter than the smaller diameter portion and it, in turn, is connected at its opposite end to a large diameter portion. A free piston has a first portion which is movable in the intermediate diameter portion and a second portion of small diameter in the first portion which is movable in the small diameter portion of the bore in sealing engagement therewith. An ignition piston has a first portion which is movable in the large diameter portion and a second portion of a smaller diameter which is movable in the large diameter portion and into and out of this intermediate diameter portion.
