  • Patent number: 5296567
Abstract: The present document describes the use of an inhibitor for cationic polymerization as an additive to a thermocurable composition based on at least one cationically polymerizable organic material and an initiator for cationic polymerization in the form of an onium compound or a compound of the formula (I)[M.sup.+n (L).sub.x ].sup.n+ nX.sup.- (I),in which n is 2 or 3, M is a metal cation selected from the group comprising Zn.sup.2+, Mg.sup.2+, Fe.sup.2+, Co.sup.2+, Ni.sup.2+, Cr.sup.2+, Ru.sup.2+, Mn.sup.2+, Sn.sup.2+, VO.sup.2+, Fe.sup.3+, Al.sup.3+ and Co.sup.3+, X.sup.- is an anion selected from the group comprising PF.sub.6.sup.-, AsF.sub.6.sup.-, SbF.sub.6.sup.-, BiF.sub.6.sup.-, derivatives of these anions in which at least one fluorine atom has been replaced by a hydroxyl group, and CF.sub.3 SO.sub.3.sup.-, or in which up to 50% of the anions X.sup.-, based on the total amount of anions, may be any desired anions, L is water or an organic .sigma.
    Type: Grant

Inventors: Dieter Baumann, Werner Margotte, Beat Muller
  • Patent number: 5047376
Abstract: The present invention relates to activated curing combinations for organic cationically polymerizable materials. The curing combinations are obtainable by activating a solution or a dispersion of an iron/arene salt and a polycarboxylic acid, an anhydride based on a polycarboxylic acid, or a polyisocyanate by heating or by irradiation with actinic radiation. The curable compositions containing these activated curing combinations can be used as sheathing or encapsulating materials for electronic components.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: September 10, 1991
    Assignee: Ciba-Geigy Corporation
Inventors: Dieter Baumann, Kurt Meier, Werner Margotte, Beat Muller
  • Patent number: 4307005
Abstract: The aqueous emulsion paints according to the invention contain urea-formaldehyde white pigments having very characteristic physical properties. Compared with aqueous emulsion paints according to the prior art, which in addition to TiO.sub.2 can contain only a maximum of 20% by weight of UF white pigments based on the entire content of white pigments, according to the invention TiO.sub.2 may be substituted up to 100% by the UF white pigment. The resultant finishes are fast to light, weather and abrasion.

Date of Patent: December 22, 1981
    Assignee: Ciba-Geigy Corporation
    Inventors: Alfred Renner, Werner Margotte
  • Patent number: 4202920
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of cured shaped articles based on epoxide resins, the compounds used as curing agents being derivatives of cyanoacetic acid, and to compositions for carrying out this process. Such compositions are used for the production of casting resins, laminating resins, lacquers, compression moulding compositions, fluidized-bed sinter powders, adhesives and glass fibre-reinforced plastics.
