  • Patent number: 5168323
Abstract: A device for determining small amounts of impurities in gases comprises a measuring cell in which an arc is generated with a low frequency alternating voltage source between two electrodes. The emission spectrum of the arc is observed by means of interference filters and photosensors and the concentrations of the impurities are determined in the electronic evaluation unit for the spectral intensities typical of the impurity traces. The device is suitable for the continuous measurement of small quantities of gaseous impurities for example traces of nitrogen, argon, neon, water vapor, gaseous hydrocarbon, in helium.

  • Patent number: 4762536
Abstract: The adsorber for cleaning gases comprises an adsorbent packing which is formed of a number of adsorbent layers and fiber layers disposed in alternating contiguous relation. The adsorber is particularly suitable for removing oil aerosols which are present in a very low concentration in the gas passing through the adsorber. The adsorber layers may be made of a molecular sieve material or activated carbon. The fiber layers may be made of cotton wadding or glass wadding or spun rayon.

  • Patent number: 4128280
Abstract: The bearing is a composite bearing comprised of a self-pressurizing floating gas bearing and a permanent magnet bearing. The permanent magnet bearing serves to support the bearing body in spaced relation to the support body at least during the starting up of the bearing body from a standstill condition to a running down of the bearing body to the standstill position. The bearing may be constructed as a radial or thrust bearing. The permanent magnet bearing may be located within or without the gas bearing.

  • Patent number: 3944304
Abstract: The bearing segments of the bearing are made with asymmetrical bearing surfaces of concave and convex shape. In addition, one or more flow ducts communicate the concave bearing surface with the convex bearing surface in each bearing segment so that during operation a part of the lubricating film between the shaft and bearing segment flows to a gap between the housing and bearing segment to float the bearing segment.
