  • Patent number: 5505249
Abstract: A continuous casting mold comprising an oscillating supporting structure including side walls defining a mold cavity, together with the supporting structure, is supported on a lifting table oscillated by an oscillation drive and guided in the oscillation direction by a guiding device. In order to keep the oscillating masses as small as possible and to improve the space conditions below the mold as well as to ensure easy repair, the lifting table is formed by at least two oscillating beams arranged at a distance leaving free the horizontal dimensions of the mold cavity and bridged by the supporting structure including the side walls.

  • Patent number: 5115857
Abstract: With known strand guides, the adjustment of different strand thicknesses involves cumbersome manipulations and the susceptibility to failures of the elements allowing for such adjustment. In order to eliminate such disadvantages, the framework parts of the strand guide rest one above the other by supports and counter supports equipped with supporting surfaces provided at different high levels and with counter supporting surfaces, respectively. In addition to the support and counter support, a rotary bushing having a helicoidal supporting surface is arranged in series to each support and counter support. An abutment allocated to one of the framework parts is supported on the rotary bushing.

  • Patent number: 4966349
Abstract: A supporting arrangement for casting ladles includes a stationarily mounted permanent base and a rotary base rotatably mounted relative to the permanent base. To each rotary base, a supporting bracket system is hinged via a linkage parallelogram system including pivotable guiding rods. Each supporting bracket system is liftable and lowerableby a pressure medium cylinder. In order to reduce the weight of the supporting arrangement and to facilitate any repair work to be done at the pressure medium cylinder, the supporting bracket system is composed of two independent supporting brackets, each supporting bracket independently being hinged to a lower and an upper guiding rod of the linkage parallelogram system. The upper guiding rods of the linkage parallelogram system, on their ends facing away from the rotary base, are united by a cross beam to a rigid unit U-shaped in ground plan.

  • Patent number: 4960165
Abstract: A method for adjusting the casting width of a continuous metal, in particular steel, casting mold in which two displaceable end walls are clamped between two large side walls with a predetermined clamping force. Prior to making the adjustment the clamping force acting on the end walls is released and one large side wall is displaced away from the abutting end walls to form a gap between them so that the end walls can be moved to the desired position. They are then clamped again between the two side walls. To attain an optimum gap width between the end and side walls by taking the actual mold dimensions at the time of adjustment into consideration, the thermal expansion of the end walls in a direction parallel to the axis of the tie rods is measured during casting, or at least during the start-up period of the continuous casting process until it has reached its equilibrium state. The adjustment is the made by adding the desired, optimum gap width to the actual, measured expansion of the end walls.

  • Patent number: 4544015
Abstract: A continuous casting plant includes supporting elements following a through-type mould and including the strand guideways. The elements are arranged within a cooling chamber and are fastened to a supporting structure so as to be adjustable relative to the through-type mould and relative to one another in the direction transversely to the longitudinal axis of the strand guideways. In order to be able to carry out an aligned adjustment between the mould and the supporting elements in a simple manner, with little work to carry out and even with the plant in operation, wherein the entry of the cooling chamber is avoided, at least one of the supporting elements is coupled with an adjustment means. This adjustment means is fastened to a supporting structure, directed outwardly from the cooling chamber and actuatable from outside of the cooling chamber.

  • Patent number: 4485837
Abstract: In a supporting and guiding arc for cast strands including rollerways supporting the strand on opposite sides, the rollers are mounted on one-piece arcuate longitudinal carriers extending over the total length of the guiding arc. Transverse carriers are arranged in pairs opposite each other along the arcuate longitudinal carriers at a distance from one another, engaging the arcuate longitudinal carriers from behind and being connected by drawing anchors. In order to combine the advantages of guiding arcs assembled of segments arranged in series with the advantages of guiding arcs equipped with continuous arcuate longitudinal carriers, each rollerway has only two arcuate longitudinal carriers. A plurality of supporting segments are inserted between the arcuate longitudinal carriers and are detachably fastened to the same. A plurality of rollers allocated to a rollerway are journaled on each supporting segment.

  • Patent number: 4483386
Abstract: In a method of introducing a starter bar head of a starter bar into the open ends mould of a horizontal continuous casting plant, the mould is removed from the continuous casting plant and placed vertical. Then the starter bar head separated from the starter bar is threaded into the mould and fixed in its position relative thereto. The mould, together with the starter bar head fixed to it, is installed into the plant. Subsequently, the starter bar head is coupled with the starter bar lying in the strand guide and then the fixation of the starter bar head is undone. In an arrangement for carrying out this method, the starter bar head has a larger longitudinal extension than the secondary cooling apparatus. One end of it projects into the mould cavity and the other end is connectable with the starter bar outside of the secondary cooling apparatus. A fixing element for the starter bar head introduced into the mould is provided.

  • Patent number: 4479529
Abstract: In a strand guiding stand including oppositely arranged stand parts connected by drawing anchors and on which strand guiding rollers are journaled, at least one of the stand parts is displaceable, and fixable, by a displacement device along the drawing anchors. The displacement device includes at least one bushing on each drawing anchor, with a helical supporting surface. Each bushing leans against a fixed abutment of the drawing anchor and the displaceable stand part is supported on the bushing. In order to prevent a change in the distance of the oppositely arranged strand guiding rollers and to be able to adjust the distance automatically merely by rotating the bushings, the helical supporting surface of each bushing has an angle of inclination that is larger than the pertaining angle of friction.

  • Patent number: 4361962
Abstract: An arrangement for measuring the distance of two oppositely arranged roller ways of a continuous casting plant comprises a measuring body capable of being pulled or pushed through the section between the roller ways. The measuring body has oppositely arranged contact surfaces touching the surface areas of the rollers, the distance-measuring device being fastened within the measuring body. In order to be able to determine the distance of the rollers with the greatest accuracy possible also with rollers that are not arranged opposite each other, the contact surfaces of the measuring body are comprised of elastically deformable spring steel strips whose longitudinal extension is larger than the axial distance of three neighbouring rollers of one of the roller ways. The spring steel strips are pressable towards the surface areas of the rollers by pressure units arranged between them and the distance-measuring device contacts the inner side of one of the spring steel strips.
