  • Patent number: 6541016
Abstract: This invention relates to monoalkyl phosphoric esters, dialkyl phosphoric esters, and, in small amounts, trialkyl phosphoric esters or salts thereof, which are preferably based on &bgr;-branched fatty alcohols, particularly Guerbet alcohol, which are effective in lowering the surface tension of both polar and also nonpolar liquids, and which have high stability, even at elevated temperatures, and low sensitivity to electrolytes and acids. The invention further relates to the use of such mixtures as emulsifiers in cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations, and to the resulting products.

  • Publication number: 20020061827
Abstract: Aqueous liquids comprising a surfactant and an acetal. It has now surprisingly been found that readily biodegradable acetals are outstandingly suitable as solubility promoters in microemulsions and liquid-crystalline phases. On the basis of homogeneous single-phase liquids consisting of acetal and surfactant, it is also possible to prepare formulations without the addition of cosurfactants.

  • Patent number: 5925775
Abstract: Amidopropyl-N-alkyl-polyhydroxyalkylamines of the following formula (1) ##STR1## in which Z is a linear polyhydroxyhydrocarbon radical having at least 2 free or oxyalkylated hydroxyl groups, R.sup.1 is a C.sub.1 to C.sub.7 -alkyl radical or C.sub.2 to C.sub.4 -hydroxyalkyl radical and COR is an aliphatic acyl radical having 6 to 22 carbon atoms, and salts thereof from an inorganic or organic acid are described. They are prepared by a) reaction of a compound of the formula (2) ##STR2## with acrylonitrile to give the compound of the formula (3) ##STR3## b) hydrogenation of the product obtained in step a) to give the compound of the formula (4) ##STR4## and c) monoacylation of the product obtained in step b) in the melt to give the compound of the formula (1) mentioned. The compounds according to the invention are readily soluble in water and water/alcohol mixtures and are advantageous co-surfactants for use in detergents and cleaning compositions and in cosmetic preparations for cleansing the hair and skin.

  • Patent number: 4853430
Abstract: Fatty acid-modified polysters composed of polyalkylene oxide and dimerized fatty acids, of the formula ##STR1## in which R is C.sub.8 -C.sub.22 -alkyl or C.sub.8 -C.sub.22 -alkenyl, preferably C.sub.12 -C.sub.18 -alkyl, R.sup.1 is the alkyl skeleton of a dimerized fatty acid having 22 to 42, preferably 34 carbon atoms, A is --C.sub.2 H.sub.4 -- or --C.sub.3 H.sub.6 --, n is a number from 1 to 5, preferably 1 to 3, and x is a number from 20 to 150, preferably 23 to 140. These are prepared by simultaneous reaction of the underlying dimerized fatty acid, polyalkylene oxide and fatty acid.
