  • Patent number: 4809629
Abstract: A sail rig for a wind propelled vehicle that has a deck surface includes a support on the vehicle providing a pivot axis generally normal to the deck surface, a boom that has a proximal end pivoted on the support for 360 degree rotation about the pivot axis and a distal end with an upwardly extending sail mounting arm. A lightweight sail frame is pivoted on an upper end of the mounting arm to turn about a rotational axis between a first nearly upright position and a neutral position substantially parallel to the deck surface, and a sail has its periphery fixedly secured to the sail frame so that it turns about said rotational axis between said first position and said neutral position. The location of the sail frame relative to said rotational axis, and the structure and shape of the sail frame and the sail S are so coordinated that the sail frame and sail are urged by gravity to said first position and tend to be moved toward said neutral position by wind pressure on the sail.

  • Patent number: 4757729
Abstract: An adjustable socket for turning threaded fasteners that have polygonal heads includes a core member detachably connectable to a fastener driving tool, and a pair of jaw members flanking the core member and supported thereon for longitudinal movement have forward gripping portions defining a socket. Inner surface portions of the jaw members ride on the core member to increase the span of the socket as the jaws move rearwardly on the core member, and a longitudinal slot in each jaw member cooperates with a headed stud on the core to limit the span of the socket. A compression spring surrounding the core member biases the jaw members forwardly.

  • Patent number: 4752262
Abstract: A laterally unstable small water craft such as a sailboard, a kayak, a canoe, a sailfish, a sunfish, or the like is provided with laterally extending narrow stabilizing wings of relatively shallow vertical dimension that limit tilting of the craft. Preferably the wings are provided with mounts that permit independent adjustment of the wing rake angle, dihedral angle and angle of attack, and the wings may be folded to positions entirely between the longitudinal sides of the craft. Conveniently the wings and their mounts are provided as a kit for attachment to any particular type of small water craft.

  • Patent number: 4744324
Abstract: A self-propelled all terrain vehicle is converted to amphibious operation by means of an amphibious conversion kit that provides rear axle extensions to mount outer rear wheels that dualize the rear wheels, and radial paddle elements on the extensions between the dual rear wheels. Over-size tires on the dual rear wheels and on front wheel means of the vehicle provide flotation means capable of supporting the vehicle and a desired load in water.

  • Patent number: 4520698
Abstract: An adjustable socket for a socket wrench or the like has a body member with two side plates, and between the side plates are jaw members which are concurrently movable parallel to the side plates to adjust the space between confronting jaw elements on the free ends of the jaw members. Pin and slot connections are used to change the positions of the jaw members. One embodiment of the invention provides for automatic adjustment when the socket is pushed against a hex-head fastener; and a second embodiment provides for manual adjustment by sliding an operating yoke forwardly on the body member.

  • Patent number: 4449559
Abstract: A hand tool such as a socket wrench has a handle with integral means at one end to selectively mount any of a plurality of interchangeable tool elements in the form of socket wrench sockets. Longitudinally extending pockets about the periphery of the handle store extra sockets, and each socket is releasably retained in a pocket and may be removed therefrom by digital manipulation.

  • Patent number: 4437364
Abstract: A nut wrench is constructed to function like a ratchet wrench by forming one of the two jaw members as a slideway which diverges from the gripping face of the other jaw member toward the front of the jaw, mounting on the slideway a slide member which has the second gripping face, and lightly spring-biasing the slide member rearwardly to a normal position. The parts are so proportioned that, when the wrench is engaged with a nut, reverse rotation of the wrench displaces the slide member forwardly until the span across the jaw members is sufficient to override the angles of the nut, after which the spring returns the slide member to its normal position.

  • Patent number: 4386879
Abstract: An operator for a Jacobs chuck has an annular support pivoted on the chuck collar for rocking movement about an axis perpendicular to the chuck axis, a gear tooth on the support between the pivot axis and the chuck ring gear which is selectively engageable with the ring gear teeth so that rocking the support causes the gear tooth to rotate the ring gear, and means permitting manual movement of the gear tooth into and out of engagement with the ring gear teeth. The annular support is counterbalanced so its center of mass is on the chuck axis, and a stabilizer normally maintains the support in a plane perpendicular to said axis.

  • Patent number: 4352306
Abstract: Socket member storage means for a set of interchangeable sockets of a socket wrench has a longitudinal wall defining a long, narrow storage cavity which has an entrance opening along one side and which is divided into several distinct portions, each of which receives one socket member of a set. A separate retaining strap on each portion of the storage cavity has one end hinged on one side of the wall and has a fastener on the other end detachably connecting it to the other side of the wall to snugly embrace and retain one socket member in the storage cavity. Detachment of the fastening means of one strap permits removal of the one socket member from the storage cavity independently of any other socket member. Preferably, the longitudinal wall provides the handle of the wrench.

  • Patent number: 4352307
Abstract: Socket member storage means for a set of interchangeable sockets of a socket wrench has a longitudinal wall defining a long, narrow storage cavity which has an entrance opening along one side and which is divided into several distinct portions, each of which receives one socket member of a set. A resilient member in each portion of the storage cavity frictionally grips and retains one socket member, and each of the resilient members has an extremity projecting above a side of the wall by means of which it may be flexed outwardly to release the one socket member for removal from the storage cavity independently of any other socket member. Preferably the longitudinal wall provides the handle of the wrench.

  • Patent number: 4281568
Abstract: A quickly adjustable ratchet wrench is essentially a crescent wrench modified by eliminating the adjusting screw and substituting a locking member and a lever to engage and disengage the locking member with the rack on the movable wrench jaw. A tension spring lightly biases the movable jaw toward closed position. With the locking member disengaged from the rack, the movable jaw may be manually opened, and when the movable jaw is released the light spring bias closes the jaws on a bolt head. When the wrench jaws are engaged with a bolt head, rotation of the lever arm in one direction engages the locking member with the rack to turn the bolt, while rotation of the lever arm in the other direction disengages the locking member and permits the jaws to open against the light spring bias and slip over the angles of the bolt head; thus eliminating the need to remove and replace the wrench on the bolt head. The lever is pivoted substantially on the line of movement of the movable jaw.

  • Patent number: 4253356
Abstract: A socket wrench of the type having interchangeable sockets has its handle constructed to provide a cavity which has an entrance opening along one side and compartments in each of which one of the socket members may be received and frictionally gripped. An access opening in the wall operatively associated with each compartment permits application of force to the socket member in the compartment to remove it through the entrance opening.

  • Patent number: 4023566
Abstract: A chair or bed consists of a base structure forming a closed, external housing and a body-supporting means which cooperates with the housing to provide a chamber which is closed but for pressure relief openings. One or more loudspeakers is mounted in the chamber facing the body-supporting means, and each speaker is operatively connected to an amplifier so that it may produce vibrations within the chamber which are in the audible frequency range, and which are transmitted through the body-supporting means to an occupant thereof. The amplifier is of standard type which functions either with a radio receiver or with a phonograph, and which has a volume control for varying the intensity of the vibrations and tone controls for varying the output as between bass and treble.
