  • Publication number: 20010018494
Abstract: The invention relates to enamels which are water-dilutable after neutralization with bases and which contain non-ionically blocked strong acids as the cross-linking catalysts. • Patent number: 6228931
Abstract: A low-solvent aqueous binder includes: a water-insoluble synthetic resin component A; and an emulsifier resin B in a mass ratio of A to B of from 70:30 to 30:70. The emulsifier resin B is a reaction product of a water-insoluble synthetic resin B1 that includes hydroxyl groups as functional groups, a synthetic resin B2 that includes carboxyl groups as functional groups, and a neutralizing agent for the carboxyl groups of B. The amount of the neutralizing agent is such that the neutralizing agent is able to neutralize from 5 to 200% of the carboxyl groups of B. A process for preparing a low-solvent aqueous binder includes: mixing the water-insoluble synthetic resin component B1 comprising hydroxyl functional groups and the synthetic resin B2 in bulk or dissolved in an organic solvent to form a mixture; removing the solvent by applying subatmospheric pressure and heating until the content of the mixture is at least 85% by mass; maintaining the mixture at a temperature from 90° to 150° C.

  • Patent number: 5811484
Abstract: A process is disclosed for preparing water-dilutable, acrylate copolymer-based lacquer binders. A polycarboxylic component is reacted with an epoxide group-containing polyhydroxylic component, and the carboxylic groups are then at least partially neutralized. As epoxide group-containing monomers for the polyhydroxylic components, glycidyl(meth)acrylate and/or glycidylallylether are used in proportions from 0.1 to 3% by weight. Associated with cross-linking components and if required with other lacquer binders, these lacquer binders are suitable for producing water-dilutable baking enamels with a low auxiliary organic solvent content.

  • Patent number: 5708072
Abstract: A process is disclosed for preparing water-dilutable enamel paint binders based on oligourethane-acrylate copolymers. A specific monomer mixture is polymerized in the presence of a water-insoluble oligourethane obtained by reacting an aliphatic ester diol with a diisocyanate. Water dilutability is achieved by using (meth)acrylic acid. These enamel paint binders are used in combination with cross-linking components and if required other enamel paint binders to formulate baking enamels.

  • Patent number: 5136000
Abstract: A copolymer containing a hydroxy and a carboxyl moiety and is dilutable with water after neutralization with an organic base, which copolymer is from an alkyl ester and/or hydroxyalkyl ester of an .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid in which the alkyl moiety is interrupted by one or more oxygen atoms and the alkyl moiety of the hydroxyalkyl ester can contain one or more hydroxyl groups, an .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, and an optionally copolymerizable vinyl monomer, and has an acid number of from about 20 to about 50, and an OH number of from about 40 to about 90, and contains incorporated by polymerization from about 0.5 to about 5% wt. based on the monomers used for its preparation of one or more perfluoroalkyl ethyl ester of an .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid containing a C.sub.6-18 alkyl moiety.

  • Patent number: 4730020
Abstract: Water-dilutable coating compositions comprising a combination of specifically selected acrylic copolymers, dissolved in a specifically defined solvent blend, combined with coloring and/or optical effect imparting pigments, and, optionally, polymer dispersions and amine resins, are described. The compositions when used as a base coat for wet-on-wet application of a multi-coat paint system exhibit excellent performance on application and give finishes with outstanding properties.

  • Patent number: 4717424
Abstract: The invention is concerned with stabilized metal pigments, in particular aluminum pigments, particularly against water and moisture, with improved resistance characteristics in aqueous paints. The stabilization of the metal particles is carried out through treatment with carboxyalkylene phosphoric acid esters, and/or carboxyalkylene phosphonic acids, and/or carboxyalkylene phosphinic acids. The carboxylic group of the compounds can be at least partially neutralized if desired.

  • Patent number: 4396651
Abstract: A spray coating process for application of water-dilutable paint systems which includes spraying a water-dilutable paint through a main nozzle which atomizes the paint and simultaneously therewith spraying at least one additional material from at least one lateral ancillary nozzle into and/or around the paint stream from the main nozzle. The additional material can be water to control the water content of the paint film, or it can be an additive such as a leveling aid for the paint. The spraying of the additional material into and around the paint stream while it is being projected to the surface to be painted causes the material to locate primarily at the surface of the atomized paint droplets.
