  • Patent number: 6796558
Abstract: In a method for transporting sheets of paper the individual sheets are conveyed successively in a conveying direction to a stop unit and at least one sheet is held at the stop unit to form a set at the stop unit. The stop unit is activated for conveying the set formed at the stop unit when a sheet of a next set to be formed at the stop unit overlaps the set formed at the stop unit. The device for performing the method has a collector with transport elements for transporting sheets along a transport path and a stop unit positioned in the transport path and operated intermittently for forming sets of sheets and further transporting the sets formed thereat. A control device is connected to the stop unit. The collector further has a first sensor device connected to the control device which sends an activation signal to the stop unit when a sheet of a next set to be formed overlaps a set already formed at the stop unit.

  • Patent number: 6508464
Abstract: In a method for intermediately storing documents being supplied in a supply cycle by an upstream system to an intermediate storage device, the documents supplied by the upstream system to a downstream system are transferred in a transfer cycle that is independent of the supply cycle. The intermediate storage device for performing the method has an input side and an output side and a transport device for transporting the documents from the input side to the output side in a transport direction through the intermediate storage device. The transport device has a first transport unit and a second transport unit. The first transport unit is arranged at the input side and is configured to be continuously driven. The second transport unit is arranged at the output side and is driven in a cycled operation.

  • Patent number: 5322498
Abstract: A buckle folding machine with at last one pair of folding rollers and at least one folding pocket (1). The folding pocket includes a top rail (43), which extends over the width of the folding pocket (1) and is attached to lateral toothed belts (26, 27) and has, on its side facing the folding pocket mouth (9), a plurality of stop fingers (44). The stop fingers have front end faces (48), located in a common plane, serve together as a paper stop within the folding pocket (1), and which can be brought by the toothed belts (26, 27) into a front deflecting position, in which their front end faces (48) together act as a paper deflector and guide the material arriving at the folding pocket mouth (9) for folding past the folding pocket (1) and into the next folding station (F2).

  • Patent number: 4354674
Abstract: A device for distributing sheets in a predetermined sequence into a plurality of collecting pockets successively arranged in a horizontal sheet feed path includes a guide member connected at the upper end of each of a plurality of walls successively arranged beneath the feed path to define the collecting pockets. The guide member extends at a substantially equal angle of inclination relative to the feed path and a deflection plane through which the sheets are deflected. A guide tongue connected to the guide plate extends in the same plane of inclination of the guide plate and projects into an adjacent one of the collecting pockets. A guide fin, connected to the guide plate, is provided for preventing areal contact between a deflected sheet and a guide plate.

  • Patent number: 4006894
Abstract: A sheet distributing device includes a plurality of sheet receiving pockets for receiving sheets in a predetermined sequence. A flexible belt conveyor is provided for transporting sheets in a transport plane adjacent in-feed openings of the pockets. A pair of guide rolls is positioned at the in-feed opening of each of the pockets and each pair of rolls is positioned tangent to a lower run of the belt conveyor and extends transverse to the transport plane in spaced apart parallel relation. A deflector means is movable on a path parallel to the transport plane and also between a raised position and a lowered position against the lower run of the belt conveyor. In the lowered position the deflector means locally deforms the belt conveyor into a loop between a pair of the guide rolls to thereby divert a sheet from the transport plane and direct it into a pocket.

  • Patent number: 3998453
Abstract: A conveyor apparatus for transporting sheets in a longitudinal direction along a transport path comprises a plurality of guide rollers arranged in axially spaced parallel relation and extending transverse to the direction of sheet transport. An endless belt means is provided having a lower run thereof coacting with the guide rollers to capture a sheet between the lower run of the belt and the guide rollers for advancing the sheet in a transport path. Selected ones of the guide rollers are positively driven and have their axes lying on an arc of slight curvature extending between axes of a first and a last guide roller with the arc curved upwardly towards the transport path. This arrangement provides a slight curvature to the lower run of the belt means to increase the frictional force exerted on the sheets for positive transport of the sheets in the transport path.

  • Patent number: 3936993
Abstract: An envelope filling machine including conveyor apparatus for transporting individual envelopes from a feed station to a filling station for receiving an insert therein. Positioned intermediate the feed and the filling stations there is provided a spreading device for opening the mouth of the envelope and a dampener device for moistening the gummed flap of the envelope. The conveyor apparatus is arranged to transport an envelope to the filling station in a feeding direction in a first transport plane and, in response to completion of an envelope stuffing operation, the conveyor apparatus is pivoted into a second transport plane inclined downwardly towards the feed station.
