  • Patent number: 7274287
Abstract: A warning and information system for a motor vehicle which outputs information that is below a conscious threshold of perception of a use, and above his or her unconscious threshold. At least one signal source located in the peripheral field of vision of the user is provided, and its output signals are variable by adjusting their color, intensity, frequency, timber, and/or loudness.

  • Patent number: 7239239
Abstract: In order to make warning devices more efficient, it is known to design parameters to be variable and therewith to be adaptable depending upon the state or condition of a user of the warning information. Herein, for example, warning start points are changed or multi-stage warnings are engineered depending upon urgency. The disadvantage of such an adaptive system can however reside therein, that the mechanistic detection of the condition of the operator using various sensor systems and the subsequent output to the operator or the operator assistant system is not always acceptable, which can irritate the vehicle operator or occupants. In order to increase the acceptance by the user of the warning information it is proposed that in the lead-up to a planned change in the mode and manner of the output of the warning information, communication is initiated with at least one of the users. In the framework of this communication a user can indicate his acceptance or declining with respect to the planned change.

  • Publication number: 20060072334
Abstract: In order to improve road safety, modern vehicles are provided with sensor systems, which assist the driver of the vehicle either directly or indirectly with respect to the environment surrounding said vehicle, especially with regard to early recognition of dangerous situations, in addition to the usual illumination device. Said systems more particularly include radar systems for detecting distance and the relative speed of objects or night vision improvement systems which are based on illumination of the field of the road environment with infrared light. According to the invention, the illumination means of the illumination device are formed by an arrangement of a plurality of semiconductor light sources (2) grouped together to form a field. Sensor elements (3) are arranged at individual positions of said field instead of said semiconductor sources (2). A multifunctional headlight can thus be advantageously created. Said headlight can be embodied as a robust, compact, low-space unit.

  • Publication number: 20050015016
Abstract: A process and system for monitoring the ability to work under pressure or receptiveness and effectiveness of a vehicle operator. The EEG-patterns of the mental activity are continuously recorded in various frequency ranges and evaluated according to various criteria. The occurrence of signals shapes or changes which indicate a impairment of operating ability are thus detected and lead, depending upon the detected status, to triggering of stepwise gradually increasing responses, from warning signals up to direct intervention and the control of the vehicle.
