  • Patent number: 6558839
Abstract: The invention provides a treatment for edge surfaces and faces of metallized fiber structure framework plates for use in electric accumulators. The edge surfaces and faces, except for the starting portion of the current tapping tab, are mechanically, thermally or chemically freed of projecting metallized fiber ends and fiber bundles in order to avoid short circuits or soft shorts caused by dendrites penetrating the cell separator or by metallized fiber ends. The mechanical, thermal or chemical treatments can take place individually or in combination with one another.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 30, 2000
Date of Patent: May 6, 2003
    Assignee: Deutsche Automobilgesellschaft mbH
Inventors: Otwin Imhof, Holger Kistrup, Dieter Henke, Wilhelm Kitzhöfer, Uwe Schaffrath

  • Patent number: 5424149
Abstract: An electrochemical storage device which has electrode plates of different polarity which are alternately stacked on one another to form an electrode stack. Each of the electrode plates is formed from an electrode framework with a current-collecting lug arranged thereon. Identically polarized current-collecting lugs of an electrode stack are connected in an electrically conductive fashion to a terminal yoke. In order to ensure better welding, the terminal yoke has at the location of the current-collecting lugs a transverse slot into which the free end region of a current-collecting lug projects. The current-collecting lug is attached to the terminal yoke on the flat side that is remote from the electrode stack.

  • Patent number: 5395710
Abstract: An electrode plate is formed from a porous electrode framework with welded-on current discharge lug for use in electrochemical storage cells. The electrode framework is formed from metallized plastic and has a current discharge lug welded on in a unilateral and overlapping manner on the weld-on edge of the electrode framework. The material thickness of the current discharge lug decreases in the weld-on end towards the weld-on edge. The material of the electrode framework assigned to the weld-on end of the current discharge lug is compressed in the region of the overlap. For greater stability of the welding, the weld-on end of the current discharge lug is formed by teeth spaced apart from one another by teeth interspaces. The teeth interspaces are at least wide enough that, when there is pressing during the welding on of the current discharge lug, the material of the electrode framework can swell between the teeth.
